Not good enough to make a playoff run.
Not bad enough to get a lottery pick or high draft pick.

no changes will be made. we will run it back with an obviously flawed front office, staff, and roster. just like the saints.

Back to back winning seasons for the second time in franchise history. On the verge of being in the playoffs 2 out of the last 3 years.

Yall need to take a step back from the ledge for real. I'm pissed the way things are going to but we're also missing the second best player on our team.

I can't agree that on the verge of probably but not guaranteed to make the playoffs with 6 games to go is a success

Finishing tenth, eighth and now seventh in a 15 team conference is mediocre. And that is if they cling to seventh. And they are always missing a player which may be another front office issue with the training and medical staff. I did not say they were bad. I said they were MEDIOCRE. And with the talent on this team that is putrid.

I don't understand the Benson hate, especially on the Pelicans side. She has invested in facilities and people, stuff like hiring Aaron Nelson when everyone told her he's the best. She's approved firing two head coaches since 2020.

You don’t think that’s a problem? What invested owner would be ok with their GM doing that?? It seems she just gives over control to Loomis and Griffin and lets them do what they want. I don’t necessarily think thats a good thing and there needs to be a serious level of accountability.

This is exactly a trait of a good owner, hiring someone with actual expertise to run things and then keep out of the way. The only real responsibilities are evaluating Loomis and Griff; setting a budget to accommodate the staff, facilities, and tools; and knowing when to stretch the budget. A bad owner meddles in decision making below the top team executive. A bad owner is cheap with a few million dollars when your team's valuation is a few billion dollars.

Gayle is not a bad owner. Now if wanting to say she should fire Loomis or Griff that's at least a debate. Personally I think both are competent and should be kept. Neither franchise is mediocre. The Saints haven't won fewer than 7 games since playing home games at LSU after Hurricane Katrina. The Pelicans have had stretches of mediocrity but are bad, and certainly not in conversation with Pistons, Hornets, Wizards and other actually terrible franchises.

No I disagree. I think there needs to be active oversight with accountability without meddling. I think there are 2 types of bad owners: first are overly active owners are the ones involved every detail of every transaction- the constant meddling of everything and second are the way too passive owners (Gayle)- who just sign checks but are not active at all in any decision making or provide any overall perspective in any decisions. I think Tom was right in the middle when it came to this (maybe more with Saints than Pelicans); but Gayle is an extremely passive owner. We have no idea what her vision for the franchises are. Ive never heard her speak once to the public or anywhere else in regards to the expectations of her teams. In the end passive owners usually yield very mediocre or underperforming franchises- because expectations from the owner either aren’t set or demanded.

I mean by your definition we have only “competent” GMs in Loomis and Griffin. There is nothing wrong with that if you want your teams to stay mediocre or underperform. I as a fan of both teams expect more.

Under Gayle they are pretty mediocre. Some playoff seasons with Saints but lately especially when Gayle took its been downhill. Most of the big success for Saints was under Tom.

Pelicans under Gayle have been mediocre to bad. I don’t even think thats a discussion.

What? We've won 2 playoff series in 20+ seasons of existence.

We are absolutely a mediocre franchise, at best.

Gayle may have made errors in judgment, but she wants both teams to succeed, whether you believe it or not.

Words don't prove that, actions do.

Pay the tax next season and seasons going forward if we're a playoff team if she wants the Pels to succeed.

Every owner wants that but question is how much are you willing to do the work to be successful- additional financial investment(paying tax), personally be active in the league outside your own teams, and be active in your own organizational decisions (not just sign checks). As of yet I have not seen Gayle do this.

I brought up the Saints but they have their own board so I'll try to stick to the Pels here.

Without the benefit of hindsight, what decisions has Gayle made with the Pelicans that were immediate mistakes?

And then with hindsight, what Pelicans mistakes has Gayle ignored and failed to attempt redressing?

Do yall feel like she's cheap and cutting corners and that it's detrimental to team success? Was this team really close enough to justify entering the luxury tax this year?

I'm not trying to put her on a pedestal, it's just my belief that Pels missteps are more from Griff's mistakes hiring coaches and putting the roster together. Or do we want to just talk about Griff and debate his job security and whether continuing to keep him is Gayle's mistake?

I think the next few years will tell us more. Gayle will need to decide whether to pay the luxury tax for a team that is winning or to keep or cut Griff if the Pels continue to flirt with play-in games.
