Our defensive plan looked a lot like HVL as our primary defensive worker. She did more than enough to put LSU in position to win.
really? Because Clark scored 41, which was 9 points above her season average. She also had 12 assists, which was 3 more than her average.

Only 3 of Iowa's 37 opponents allowed Clark to scored more than we allowed.

And 16 of those opponents managed to hold Clark under 30 points.

HVL worked hard, no doubt, but she utterly failed. And a lot of that is on Mulkey, for devising that defensive scheme and not adjusting in-game when it was evident to everyone that it wasn't working.

Sometimes great players just get ridiculously hot. Go back and look at her 20 three point attempts. The D was good on most of her misses and arguably the defense was good on 6 of the makes.

Those are shots you have to live with as a coach because they’re supposed to be low %. “Make her shoot contested 25-footers” is probably the best percentage play.

It was like last year with Jasmine Carson but on steroids. They defended our stars and dared the bench to beat them…our bench just went nuts.

And there is the problem. Our entire defense was HVL playing one-on-one with Clark, and Iowa using another player to set a screen on almost every possession. So basically a one person defense on Clark, made more difficult by Clark getting more help than HVL.
