Money is absolutely a key to happiness if you've got your life together otherwise. If you are addicted to drugs or have a shitty marriage it won't help.

Money either makes getting your life together drastically easier or drastically harder. Most junkies get clean when their addiction makes it impossible to support themselves financially, causing them to HAVE to get clean because they can’t keep the addiction going. Having enough money to never have to stop one’s self-destructive addiction can ensure one never actually turns their life around. That’s why so many nepo baby trust fund kids are absolute garbage people. They never will get desperate enough financially to have to change in order to survive. There are all kinds of things other than drugs which people can treat as an addiction to avoid facing their problems and fixing them, and money enables all of them.

What is happiness? I think everyone's definition of happiness varies.
Money opens doors to many things, including freedom of your time. More charitable giving, sponsoring your children's sports teams, taking family on vacation, not having to worry about how you're going to pay this month's bills, etc.
Yes, making more money can result in spending more, but that doesn't make money inherently evil. Having discipline and clear financial goals makes all the difference in the world.
I can promise the majority of this board wouldn't turn down a large sum of money on principle because "it's not important"

Money makes things easier. It’s a tool towards happiness

i agree with you but disagree at the same time.
here is where i disagree:
Greed will make mankind do some terrible unethical things just to fill their pockets with cash

Your job isn’t supposed to fulfill your passion. It should be tolerable though. You should be happy to a have a well paying job. This should allow you to have fund your passions. The chase your dream crowd is insufferable.
Make money, compound money, and then have frick you money to actually pursue your passions and spend more time with family.
That’s atleast how I look at it.

thats a good philosophy if it suits you, but years of misery to achieve your passionate goal is not worth it in my opinion

Money and greed aren't the same thing though. Greed is a human trait, money is simply a means to pay

Very few people will ever have frick you money being employed by someone else. A well paying job as you call it

Money creates greed. Greed is an evil evil thing. Money cause a lot of bad things…

Easy answer to your question. Give half of your money to a charity of your choice and live off the other half. See if you’re happy.

You should give all your money and possessions away then. Live off the land.
Money does lots of good in the world. I’d venture to guess your broke arse has accepted mediocrity and hence your ill feelings toward money.

Wow… upset much… tell me where my post is wrong in any way….

Your over simplification of “money is causes a lot of evil things” is a great place to start.
Posted on 4/1/24 at 3:12 pm to DCtiger1
It does… not sure what planet you live on.

Fill in the blank on what causes a lot of evil things in the world. Guess what, it’s not money, it’s people and immorality. Are guns also evil in your opinion?
Out of curiosity, how much do you make a year and what’s your annual charitable contributions? Clearly you have zero clue what good money can do in the world.

People kill other people OVER money. If that’s not evil, I don’t know what to tell you…. Money causes grief in settlements, and divorce, and drugs that destroys lives, causes people to steal.. etc…. BUT I never said money is bad. Money is a very important part of people’s lives and it does have many benefits…I’m just pointing out that there are many other things in life that are more important… no reason for you to be a dick about it….

Are you going to answer the question or continue to deflect?
