Going camping this weekend at Chicot state park. Is it worth giving the fish a try?

I haven't been there in a long time but I would say yes.

Short answer: no
Aside from being a very hard place to catch a fish, one of the biggest annual bass fishing tournaments for the lake is on Good Friday.
If you are bent on fishing, I’d drown a cricket under a cork, moving from dock to dock. Should catch a few brim.

Whoa. So there is a tournament there this Friday?

The Good Friday Tournament every year
Looking at 60 boats with about 10% catching any fish

I’m thinking the best spot to bass fish will be at the launch after they release the fish! lol!!

How about in three weeks? I will be there for a week in my rv. I have the campsite right beside the lake and the dock. My wife would love to see the cork bopping and catching a few bream.

Friend and I used to refer to it as Shatco lol. You can catch a wall hanger there or get your azz handed to you. My wall is still open.

Chicot is either the hardest place to catch fish or the easiest depending on how well you know it.
I love fishing it because of its beauty but I can’t catch fish there!!
Have buddies who know all the holes and they hammer them.
It’s mostly flat with 2 deep holes. One where they built the bridge and another in the old bayou.
Drowning a cricket is the way to go

Worth fishing? Absolutely. Will you catch? Bass, not likely, bluegill or sacalait? maybe.
I grew up on this lake. Spring you can do well fishing small black/blue or black/chartreuse or black/pink sacalait jigs. I sometimes add a spinner and fish them around cypress trees near deeper water. Or you can grab crickets or worms or shiners and fish the coves up against the tupelo and cypress. As far as bass, there is a ton of pressure so it can be tough, but you can definitely pull a 6lb bass out of there, or bigger. If that's what you want, i'd go with an old school jig and pig looking for bedding areas, or fish flats with a large swimbait. It is one of the most beautiful lakes...period

Gave that park up. Last camping trip some drunks howled at the moon till midnight a forgot to boil almost a bag of crawfish and they were crawling all around the campsites. No enforcement of quiet. And all we caught were bream and mud cats. We go north now.

Been peaceful so far. Son in law just left in the kayak. Told him to text me if he starts catching. I doubt he does though

Did your SIL catch anything?

Nothing. Didn’t even get a bite. The water was absolutely beautiful. I don’t get it

buddy of mine took his father up three days this past weekend. They did very well on bass, bream and lake runners.

I have been here for two days watching the boats go out and come back in with very little fish. One person had LiveScope and he could see crappie, but they would not bite. The water is very muddy with the heavy rains a week or so ago. No one has caught anything off the fishing pier either.

Wife and I rented a cabin there for 3 days a year ago and caught one sacalait…in 3 days. Tons of gators in there.
