Date and approximate time of incident: 3/23/24 @ 1701Z (1:01 pm local)

Not a lot of news coverage of this situation, but VAS Aviation has the ATC Audio:

Incident occurs at 2:23 timestamp.

From the description:

quote:

Southwest Boeing 737-8H4 (N8554X) performing flight SWA147 from Nashville to LaGuardia was on the second attempt to land when the aircraft suddenly deviated to the right of the approach path coming dangerously close to the control Tower at around 150-200 feet height.

Air traffic controller yelled the pilots to go around and climb immediately.

Prior reported METAR:
231651Z 04016Kts 1SM R04/4000VP6000FT +RA BR OVC 006 08/06 A2979 SFC VIS 2 SLP 086

Seems like wind shear and a lack of situational awareness was to blame here.

The aircraft safely diverted to BWI

Am I the only one who finds the woman ATC's demeanor on this weird?

She talks on the radio like she's hanging out with friends in a social setting more than ATC I've heard before.

Listen to the tape, sounds like rotten weather that day. Wind shears. Everybody is doing go-arounds. Sounds like they got hit by a nasty gust.

NOtice they diverted. To Pittsburgh. Nowhere near NYC. Crud...

Definitely some wind shear going on the flight in front of them missed their approach as well and stated they hit some, Not sure if they caught wind shear and were hand flying it and didn't realize they were so far off course or what - I'm guessing the copilot was initially flying and fricked up and the captain took over after that shite because they switched who was running the radio.

LGA has to be top-5 most dangerous airports in the country

We flew SWA to LGA in December. Final was windy and over water. Runway must be super short because I remember seeing the landing bars on the opposite side proper to us exciting to the taxiway

our pilot just stepped out for a minute, to go take a piss, and hit on the stewardess, nothing to see here

I saw the video. The co-pilot had absolutely no idea where they were at and was questioning the ATC why they even had to do a go-around. This could’ve turned into a disaster real quick. That co-pilot who wasn’t paying attention needs to be fired immediately.

And of course the co-pilot is a woman. Who would have fricking thought. Looks like those DEI hires are really paying off. I fly Southwest in less than a month and this is the kind of shite that scares me about flying in post-COVID America: I don’t want some incompetent, unqualified dumbass piloting my flight.

In the Navy landing at sea they’d be saying:

wave off
Wave Off!
WAVE OFF!!!
