Stellantis just fired hundreds of engineers

Saw a clip on youtube. 3 min long
Employees say company is continuing to spread into areas that are lower cost for operating (meaning other countries outside the US). Makes me wonder if Stellantis is about to be another Boeing.
The people getting fired were given a notice for a mandatory remote work day, and they all had to go for a mass zoom call and got fired that way.
Stellantis vehicles are not selling and the unions just got them to pay 20% more for 20% less work.
Don't worry though, Stellantis is still flying its rainbow flag proudly at its headquarters, and they want you to know that they are laser focused on their EV production.

Those are some of the worst vehicles out there. Would not have one even if someone gave it to me.

Ole UAW union thug sean fain got another yuge bonus while the average line-worker is gonna get a pink slip in a few months.

All the big 3 have signaled they will move more production off shore by 2028 because of the union. Business sense.
And dodge has like 300 days of inventory and seems to mostly produce higher trim models to maximize profits, so yeah, they are piling up on lots.
Ford has thousands of f150s sitting in parking lots all over Michigan

Former employee states in the past the Government bailed them out. Is that the way to run a business? And as a employee i think that should have been the wakeup call to start dusting off the resume.

Did they let go of the DEI department too? Or are they more valuable to an automobile production company than the people who engineer the design and production of the automobiles that you are now unfortunately not selling because you have included the cost of DEI department (and a lot of other things) into the cost of the automobile which is now so overpriced that people aren't buying enough of them to keep your people working?

Maybe they need new engineers.

Why not move everything to the South? You may still pay more than Mexico but it may be an issue finding skilled workers in another country.
When the union thing went down last year, I was dreaming that once the deal was done, the Big 3 would announce that they plan to move all operations to the South. It would be bold but it would work, and I can imagine the above average union worker would give the UAW the bird in a heartbeat in order to keep their career. I was in a union as it required me to join in order to get the job and it was horrible. Many of us (the valuable workers) wished the company we worked for would go private.

I don't really understand why they don't just tell the union " when the contract is over, no more union" and tell employees "you can stay if you want, here's the pay and benefits, or you can leave and we will replace you". Why negotiate with the union at all?

Stellantis just signed a deal with California to not fight EV rollbacks even if Trump wins and challenges California air resource board requiring 51% EV by 2030 and 100% by 2035.
Clown show. No logical thinking about the true impact of anthropogenic carbon dioxide emissions. There is no scientific consensus but it doesn’t seem to matter.
MSM print, cable, broadcast lump co2 emissions in with all other air pollution.
Climate change is happening but man has negligible impact on the change. Yet here we are.

As long as the union money keeps financing democrats they'll keep dumping more money into the company. Welcome to Chinese style capitalism where the good you provide is irrelevant as long as you submit to the political regime they'll give you any dollar amount you want.
The economy or actual progress be damned.

Selling a car for 40% over what you should sell it for.
Leaving your dealers on the hook for it.
Fire your engineers.
Horrible decision making.

When Obama had the summit with the big three, didn’t he reference a Honda plant as the model of efficiency and productivity? Wasn’t that plant non union?
My dad retired from Ford. I never owned one that was trouble free. Made the move to Honda, infinity and Tundra forty years ago and never looked back.

Have you met some of these people? It’s like that last cigarette. They know it’s bad but they can’t let go.

Met a Union electrician that was a few years from retirement. They wouldn’t give him any work-figured the young guys would be paying dues for the longest time supporting the union do screw the old timer on his way out. This was in Boston

He dropped out months ago. Why were they still being paid? Great example of poor business sense.

My old man worked in aerospace (not for Chrysler), he had enough with American automakers by the mid 1970s.
Looking back, it was an easy technical decision as the engineering and build quality of the Big 3 was anbsol abysmal then*. There was a social component to it, he wasn’t a Mercedes or Volvo kind of guy so it was Japanese cars and they were tiny and austere. But he made the move and never owned anything but Nipponese cars until he died.
*Admittedly some 1970s American cars are eye candy. They were not reliable as daily drivers and they aged poorly. The basic new car warranty was 12 months/12,000 miles for a reason.
