If an elective and unnecessary procedure inhibits a major life function - is there any line?
You going to stop men from getting vasectomies? Or women from getting hysterectomies?
Are you going to ban elective limb lengthening procedures?
We can do this all day. How about we let consenting adults, consent and be adults.

Schizophrenic wants his arm removed, no ethical issue?
A schizophrenic can't ethically or legally consent to get his toenails trimmed. If you want to argue anyone who would consider gender-affirming surgery by default does not have capacity to make medical decisions, then thats your right I guess

As long as they go back in the closet, leave society alone and no money comes out of my pocket I don't care what the mentally ill do.

No, and I expected you'd raise the point. I'm guessing a lot of practitioners would hesitate and sternly advise/warn against some 23 year old getting either, no? And why is that?

I don't know what they do - are they sound medical procedures in your view?

So no limits? I want to voluntarily amputate my arm and I'm of sound mind, no ethical issue presented to the profession.

Well first, yes, that's my argument. Second, even setting aside the reality that someone with some variation of gender dysphoria and willing to consider major reconstructive surgery are, as a category, mental ill and lacking capacity, the reality is that nearly all of them suffer from other major mental/behavioral disorders.
If your starting point is "the medical profession shouldn't preclude any surgeon from doing any procedure so long as informed consent is obtained, regardless of the likely harm/uselessness/etc. of the procedure" - ok. I struggle to believe that's really what you think, though.

What a weird question to remember. You tried a gotcha and it failed miserably and just showed you are racist

They paid good money for a rot pocket. They should learn to enjoy it

I dont think the Jews or the POWs of the Japanese (not Chinese) volunteered for those atrocities.

Advise against? Recommend he/she thinks it over? Absolutely. I talk people out of surgery every day.
But, I respect that a 23 year old is an adult. And if they are dead set on getting a vasectomy, they should have access to that care.
quote:

They are 100% cosmetic procedures with a high complication profile. If I knew someone who was considering it, I would immediately call them and try to talk them out of it.
But again, I still do not support banning these surgeries. Even if part of me thinks surgeons who do this as kind of snake oil-y.

Thats why I said consenting adultS, plural. You still need to find someone licensed and willing to do this "procedure" on you. And currently, elective arm amputation does not exist as a surgical procedure. Keep in mind, all of these gender affirming surgeries are/were treatment options for a plethora of other conditions that have nothing to do with gender.

Of course thats not what I really think. I am a simple, evidence based physician. At the end of the day, every new procedure starts out somewhat "experimental." Look up Rotationplasty and imagine being the first surgeon explaining to a parent what you plan to do to their child
Anyways, thats to say I am not "grossed" out by these procedures in a way many people in the general public are--understandably so. My "line," so to speak, is what is supported by data versus what isn't. Any surgery, gender affirming or not, that has been studied and yet is not supported with evidence of its efficacy treating a certain condition, should not be offered to patients by surgeons.

I hope it continues and gets worse for anyone who wants to participate in this.
Sorry, not sorry.
Sorry, not sorry.

I feel pity for the delusional young people dragged into this mental illness. As for the adults that are aiding and abetting this abomination of medical malpractice to continue - I have nothing but hate.

I admittedly don't want to go looking at this stuff (not because I don't want to be proven wrong, but because I think it's gross) - but creating a vagina for a man was an option for a condition that doesn't have anything to do with gender?

Where are all of your posts calling for surgeons who do nose jobs, boob jobs, tummy tucks, etc to be prosecuted?
This comparison really is sad.
Only someone with a personal and/or financial benefit from gender destructive procedures could try to make it. Get right with God.

big mad. Look at you lashing out. So soft.
For the record, I didn't believe STP about your wife being illegal because i don't believe you can find someone to frick you much less marry you. You've always given off loser incel vibes. But i was willing to entertain the idea of you getting played for a green card because that might make some sense. But since you denied it, even though we all know you're a huge liar, I'll let it go and just go back to you being an incel who larps for taint.
