and it ended with a party.

A new hope ended with a medal ceremony. Empire ended with Luke recovering after getting his hand lopped off by his father and nearly dying and Han in carbonite. ROTJ ended with a party...and Vader Anakin's corpse being burned on a pyre after being electrocuted to death by the emperor.

In a movie universe where nearly every major character death has been retconned in some form, having reality and deeper themes of sacrifice was a breath of fresh air.

after reframing himself and saving luke.

Listen I knew “many rebels died for these plans” going into Rogue One, and it has its place, i just don’t think that was the tone throughout the OT and shouldn’t be the tone for the whole franchise.

But it is a good thing for the franchise to have different tones.

He's right. It's not just what happens in the movie. It's the way that it's presented, cold, grey and edgy. They clearly were going for a Nolan feel and that's what they achieved. The whole feel is just slower and more somber.

It's probably the best of the Disney films, but still not good.
