Josh Gates is likable enough...I enjoy learning about culture and places he visits and can respect his courage for some of the things he is willing to do (like scuba diving inside flooded tombs), but so much of that show is staged. A lot of his "finds/discoveries" are already known about (have been found).
But the worst is the fake script. I watched an episode last night where he had to borrow a scooter to get to some place, which eventually runs out of juice, so he has to walk. Why couldn't he have just hopped into the equipment truck with his cameraman who had been following along?
Another has him hitching a ride in the back of a cargo truck with a bunch of locals, goats, and chickens (being followed by an apparent equipment truck).
There have been several times where he was not allowed into an area because it was "sacred", yet somehow the camera is inside filming him looking into the forbidden area...
Wish he would just stick to the educational info stuff and have less of the Duck Dynasty type script

EU and EX are great shows, and Josh Gates is a Gdamn treasure.

of course it is staged - but it is still a damn good show.

Pretty sure the film crew is just that, a film crew and not one to offer assistance unless it becomes life threatening in some way.

I know I've seen the film crew help people on those "Alaska" type shows if they fall through the ice while crossing a frozen river, but if the water is only a couple feet deep, the guy/gal on the show are on their own.

Most of those type shows are not like "Alone" where the people on the show film their own daily routines and the production crew picks up the video to edit and put in the show to air.

He's very entertaining and the show is fun, but yes, it's staged pretty bad. I love when he discovers a passage or cave that nobody has ever been in before and he's "the first to step foot it in" and the camera from inside the cave films him walking in.

I totally get why shows want to stage some things for entertainment, but I'll never understand why they go over the line and ruin it.

Show should be called "Expedition Known".

Gates is awesome. He needs to be on streaming unedited. He cusses like a sailor and seems like a good dude.

For me, I’m always frustrated that I invest an hour or two and at the end they just say, “well maybe one day we’ll find out the answer”.

Anyone else dig the chick on Expedition X? I’ve wondering if her and Gates ever nailed or at least her and her cohost

Josh went through a bad divorce over COVID.

Use to watch it a good bit. I didn't know the places they went to know how much they were putting on a show. Then they did the Jean Lafitte episode and it ruined the show for me. I know they are making something entertaining and want people to keep watching. They were so far off on almost everything, made up to much stuff that only about 5% had any truth. Wish I never seen that episode, was better off not knowing

Chobot is easy on the eyes. I like the dynamic of her with Phil on Expedition X

True. For a 46 yr. old woman, she is holding up very well.

So nobody thinks on those long getaways out of the country she hasn’t hooked up with the Spanish guy or Gates?

Has Gates EVER found anything on a show that hasn't already been discovered or was known beforehand?

It’s an educational show, not ground breaking archeological finds.

I used to think it was a bit cheesy the way they try and dramatize some of the “discoveries”. Or how Josh just happens to find something in a hole that’s already obviously been dug up. But I really don’t care. The stories he talks about and the places he gets to go to are fun to watch and neat to see.

I know I still love the show even though it’s probably 75% staged

I always laugh when they go to a beach or something with a metal detector and then comes across a coin that you know, they found already and planted it

At least once... I think. I remember watching and thinking "he actually found something" but can't remember what it was now.

Byron Preiss “The Secret” up in Boston he was there when they dug the cask out of the construction site.

Suleiman The Great in Hungary. (No heart) I believe he was there after excavation permitting had passed though.

They found one of the gems from The Secret in Boston, but the guy he met up with was pretty damn sure where it was.

I love Expedition Unknown, even the scripted stuff. I can’t stand Expedition X- I’m into the history and lore, not finding big foot.
