State was playing beyond themselves. Any team in the country would have struggled. They were literally hitting everything solidly. Lsu will be ok. We will beat the crap out of teams unexpectedly and lose to some unexpectedly

Coleman will probably get La Tech this week, with Anderson in relief.
I don't expect the weekend rotation to change yet. Jay is continuing to look at different things for the staff. I hated how he managed the pitching this weekend, but I trust that he has a method to the madness.
I think we have a nice, strong, deep staff. I'm just not so sure it'll be dominant. We'll have to execute better than this past weekend, and have a better plan.

Anderson is being groomed for such a position, but he is not ready yet.

He’s getting closer though the further removed from TJ. Nice arsenal

Jay really likes Hurd and without too much doubt in my mind he will start the Sunday game next weekend against UF to give him 1 more shot.
If he gets shelled again that's when I think Jay will basically be forced to make a move to bullpen if that happens for Hurd and try either Anderson or Coleman the following weekend on Sunday.
Hope Hurd can pull it around but the results really just havent been there for him outside of a few shorter spurts of being good in his whole time here.

not that really any LSU pitcher looked good this weekend.
THIS. I believe ACK did his job, but not many/if any others got through their assignment unscathed. Learn from it and move forward.

To be fair, they were almost all given awful assignments.

Holeman and Jump were given the assignment they are going to be given every week.

Jay kind of did this last year, took him a while to mail down assignments. And I know the pitchers are usually worse because of it.
The problem this year is he thinks so many guys are interchangeable. And that sounds great in theory but pitchers like to know their role. It’s different to come into a pressure situation in the 5th inning vs the 8th inning.
Friday was unlucky I thought but Sat & Sunday were not. Seems like people are already running with that. But lsu was bad and some of the decision making was questionable.

Problem is every team this year will be playing beyond themselves against LSU because everyone wants to beat the defending national champs. So LSU better zip up their big boy pants right now and realize they better bring it every weekend because it’s not going to get any easier. Teams are gunning for LSU. Arkansas & Tennessee for dang sure

Is it Coleman or Anderson that was quoted earlier in the year that he prefers to start vs coming out of the bullpen due to the longer warm-up?
Coleman...
He is a starter....coleman hates coming out of the bullpen... trust me...

The obvious choices are Coleman or Anderson. I lean towards it being Anderson, but I don't think you can go wrong with either.
Still think you can't go wrong with Coleman? He could not get four outs against Louisiana Tech. I like Coleman, but he is no where near as advanced as Hurd, and neither is Anderson.
Keep sending Hurd out there. Eventually, he will start going 6 or 7 innings with a 2.5 ERA. The stuff is there and the command is close.

This would not surprise me, but it would not be because Jay was looking for another solution. It would be because Jay wants Hurd to go work on something away from live action. If he pulls Hurd from the rotation it will be with the expectation that Hurd will be back as a weekend starter.

Not after that horrendous start against Tech. Something is up with him. No control and velo is down.

Not sure about the velo. The gun showed him at 90, which would support your point, but it also showed Herring down.

Had Moffet at 96-97

clearly this year isn't about winning a title. let the young guys get a chance to grow and learn
You came to this conclusion already, as LSU sits at #5. I bet you were one of the ones saying LSU wasn't getting out of a regional last year as well.
What a horrifically bad take.

Yeah every year is about winning a title or else you shouldn't be coaching/playing for lsu baseball... it's the standard

I wonder what was up with Coleman last night? Velo was down and there was zero control.
Was he nervous, injured, or just didn't have his stuff? Either way he won't be starting any on the weekend until he has a good Tuesday night game.
Jay has also shown a tendency to not stretch out young guys or put them in high leverage situations to soon, so I doubt Anderson gets a start in an SEC series anytime soon.
Looks like Hurd is the Sunday guy until further notice.
Positives based on last night were Herring taking over in a bad situation, Moffitt throwing heat (however he doesn't throw a curveball very well) Ulloa having a nice night. Loer looked ok for his inning. Cam Johnson showing better control then his last game and Bucknam having a nice night

I thought it was interesting that Kade didn't pitch at all last night.
