Same here. There is no mid-range game anymore. It's all 3 point shooting, and it makes the game boring IMO.
There is very little beauty in the game anymore.
It's crazy that one of the prettiest and ugliest styles of basketball existed in the 2000's and 2010's. You had the Popovich Spurs that were an absolute think of beauty and you had the Carmelo (and Kobe to a degree) iso ball style where your scorer got the ball and everyone else went and got out of the way and two guys went one on one.
The constant three point shooting is an uglier version of the game but it's a more efficient shot nowadays with how good these guys shoot so it at least makes sense, the one on one iso ball era was an absolute joke/ugly style of ball.

Get rid of replay. No more in game interviews.
I'm only 51. But, the games just seem stale. Too much talking by the TV people. And too many timeouts if you are in the arena. Basketball was not meant to have a replay every time a foul 'looks' bad. I think the refs have played a part in killing my joy.
Also as others pointed out, too many damn 3s. Especially by guys who should not be shooting them(Giannis).

This idea that the basketball being played now is a lesser product than the 90's is just a nostalgia overload thing for people who were happy when they were a kid and miserable now as an adult.
The style of play and athleticism is soooo much more aesthetically pleasing now than it was in the 90's. Everyone who says the 90's was better brings up Michael Jordan as their evidence, as if every player played like him in that era.

Odd complaint. There is a 30 second or so window from when a foul happens to the time the player shoots his free throws. There's nothing wrong with showing a replay of the foul. I'd rather see a replay of the foul over showing the player walking around before he gets the ball to shoot his free throws or players subbing in. How was it "not meant to have a replay." It was meant to not show them so you can't see whether it was actually a good call or not? Honest question, do replays of penalties in football bother you?

Best sporting event I've ever attended is an NBA game a few years ago. Always something going on during the time outs. It's non stop entertainment

The officiating is ruining the game at all levels. Refs straight up dictate the game. Touch fouls and the lack of consistency in how the games are called is frustrating. It actually promotes soft defense which makes it a boring exhibition. Nobody wants to see 80 free throws either.
The new stop and review bullshite only adds to the frustration as a fan. This has to be fixed too.

Not enough European players for my taste.

I mean when they have to stop the game and review for flagrant 1 or 2. Either call what you see or nothing. It stops the flow of the game.

they should take away the corner 3 and extend it further back up top and just extend the line to the out of bounds area by the coaches box. would be A lot better of games!!

You’re confusing lesser product with less entertaining. I agree the athleticism is at an all time high. Shooting is as good as it’s ever been. Combined with some rule changes, that stuff has thrown the balance of the game out of whack (at least IMO). Watching the same thing on repeat (I.e. three point attempts) isn’t something people want to do for a few hours.

NBA blows. Still enjoy College a lot.

Are you under the impression that in the 90's the majority of the scoring wasn't bully ball downlow and low percentage mid ranger jumpers?

At the NBA level, there's relatively little strategy...almost no innovation. The coach is really closer to an afterthought.
It's just not that appealing.

I wasn’t arguing that 90’s ball was better. Read my posts. I think the game was at a peak around the early-mid 2010’s. Steph Curry, as great as he is, contributed to the downfall of entertainment.

This. And I'll take it a step further: 20-25 years ago, the knock on the NBA was that nobody could shoot or score consistently. It was "unenjoyable" because scoring over 100 points was often a Herculean effort thanks to stingy defenses and slower pace. Hell, the 00's Spurs got the "boring" label for precisely that reason (along with Tim Duncan's stoic demeanor). "Bring back the ABA days!" I remember folks saying. "Back when teams actually got out and ran and racked up Assists! That was FUN basketball!"
Fast forward to today, the pace is faster, and the offenses much more sophisticated to hunt mismatches. Basically everyone is a shooting/scoring threat, and the positionless nature makes the game fluid as hell. Did it make people happier? Nah, now the naysayers opine for the days of 33-33 halftime scores and winning games without cracking triple digits.
There will always be people complaining about basketball. Usually in 20-25 year cycles. We're probably going to see a return to more of a defensively-oriented game soon, as rules are tweaked and defenses finally catch up to modern motion offenses.
Best practice? Enjoy the game regardless of the era it's in.

What a wild take. Not even remotely accurate.

I stopped watching mainly because I can’t take the end of the games. The hack a Shaq / hack a Yao at the end in mind numbing.
I think for intentional fouls you should get the shots and the ball. 30min to play 2 minutes of game time sucks.
Also reduce the amount of timeouts.
