Has it occurred to you that there was no further communist expansion precisely because the U.S. made all of that effort to contain it to Indochina? The general opinion of residents of Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, Papua New Guinea, the Philippines, and Thailand seems to be that their communist movements began to suddenly peter out once the Soviet Union had spent itself into permanent "stagflation" while trying to prop up the Indochina communist insurgencies.
