Seems like Ack is settling in as the Closer

Role seems to fit him well. Moment doesn’t seem too big for him. Multiple pitches and enough velo to keep people honest.
Guidry got it done last year but with scouting report out on him now, he needs to have a second pitch to be effective. Hopefully he continues to develop that.
I’m assuming/hoping Kade turns into the long relief/spot start option that Ack was last year.
Let’s win today !

I’d rather Ack at middle relief .He has the ability give you 4-5 quality innings if needed.

Good thing ack will be available today

He's definitely the most reliable pitcher out of the bullpen!!

It seems like Guidry or Ack will be used in that role, depending on the situation. Sometimes in tandem. Pretty clear Jay sees those two guys as our most reliable “shutdown” arms out of the pen.

I dont think johnson views him or anyone as a “closer”. He has options that are stoppers. Guys who he will bring in, in what he views at a pivotal moment in the game. I think its a group that includes Ack, Guidry, Loer, and maybe Little.
Whether it works or not, i agree with this approach

Ulloa will be in the mix.

Guidry is better at the end of games, vs coming in during the middle innings.

quote:Agreed, he’s your most trusted arm. In a 1-2 run game in the 9th, you have to bring him in and worry about tomorrow later.

I doubt we ever have “a closer” this season

Does anybody know how Jaden Noot will be used coming off injury?

People seem to be in a hurry to label players something or the other. Jay doesn’t seem to care, lol. He does things however he wants.

Cautiously

Jay said a couple weeks ago that he isn’t really aiming to have a closer. He wants to use his best high leverage guys wherever necessary during the weekend. That could be the 9th inning or it could be 7th inning, up 1 with two outs and the bases loaded.
