And the true answer is throwing like last night, he's pretty much anyone's Friday ace.

I understand it’s a Saturday but it’s still a little early to be hitting the sauce. Take a nap ole son

The reality is it’s game 1 of a long SEC schedule. We ran into a kid that is obviously very talented and was on his spots last night.
All but 1 SEC home team won last night.
I agree the results were surprising but let’s withhold any serious judgment until the end of the weekend.
State as a team has not hit the ball very well this year but they have pitched it.
It’s at worst an even playing field the rest of the weekend with the arms we have remaining. Perhaps our pitching is not what we expected but it’s also no where near as bad as what we saw last night. If we can spread out 10-12 runs over the next 2 games, I like our odds.

No doubt he was a dude last night and answered the call…but, before last night, he’d never seen more than 2.2ip so far this season. Six appearances w/ 16.2ip doesn’t scream “Friday night starter”

Xavier’s Friday guy plus a bullpen arm no hit this lineup over 6 innings just seven days ago. Would those guy’s be SEC Friday night guys?

The hot takes after one game is truly astounding.

Terrible thread and the bait is obvious, but Stevens was a fricking stud last night. Obviously has great stuff, and you never know how freshmen will step up in those positions, and he clearly did and fed off the crowd. He's gonna be a good one, but will likely have his ups and downs like most freshmen. We may have gotten his best outing all season.
Speaking of the crowd, the reverse is also true. Our guys haven't played in an atmosphere anywhere near what they did last night yet. I'm sure it was a pretty difficult welcome to SEC play for a lot of our younger guys. And even Bingham, who's played a ton of P5 college baseball against good competition has likely never played in an atmosphere like Dude Noble on a Friday night SEC opener.
I don't think it's any coincidence that the 2 guys who provided most of our runs were White and Pearson, who've both played a lot in those environments. It's gonna be a really good learning weekend for the young guys. Would have loved to start the season at the Box, but maybe it's good to just dive on into the deep end in Starkville. They'll come out better for it no doubt. I think we have a great chance to win the final 2 games--really need a great start from Jump today--but even if we split and finish losing 2 out of 3, I don't think it's the end of the world with how much better getting that 1st rowdy road SEC series out of the way should make us moving forward.
