Johnny Come Lately is another good song off that album. It too suffers from continuity problems. It's a Vietnam veteran relating a story about how his grandparents met during WWII, which is a full generation off.
I like Steve as long as I don't have to listen to him talk too much. I'm by no means MAGA but Steve is a full blown lefty radical

As is most musicians. I think hearing about racism and people who actually are racist talk makes people flock to the left. Some of my best friends are minority musicians and we get along great, just can’t talk politics. Usually being able to play music is a sign of intelligence, and there is a silent group that agrees with the right; they just can’t be vocal about it

I’ve said this before and I’ll say it as many times as I have to. I saw Steve play in Austin (the whole Copperhead Road album incidentally) right after Trump was elected. The Only political statement he made was “everyone try and love one another, no matter who you voted for," or something close to that. Steve may be out there, but he is truly a man of thr people who never forgot where he comes from. Compare that to some sanctimonious douche like Isbell who has become so insulated in the "in crowd" that he has nothing but contempt for the average american. The average John Lee Pettimore, if you will.
