You must be very young then if you've lived there all your life yet don't remember how much of a shite show it was before it was widened by the hospital.

Been a few weeks but Essen getting widened was a much needed upgrade. Granted one road widening doesn't put a dent in BR traffic.

Wait till they take out the bridge over the lakes on 10. Essen and all over major surface streets will be grid locked 24/7.

College Drive and Seigen Lane are the two worst roads / streets in Baton Rouge with Essen a close third. College has always been bad for as long as I can remember.

1. Siegen - Nothing good to say about it, a clusterfrick road with too much shite on it for its capacity
2. Essen - see #1
3. College - see #1 (except with unlimited amount of potholes)

Same thing with O’Neal. It’s bumper to bumper for miles every day, even at 1pm on a weekday. It’s been like this since the holidays, but not so much before. It’s like Christmas Eve every day. What has been going on?

Because the city likes to screw with the light cycles! I travel both Essen and O'Neal every day and just when they get the lights cycling correctly they change it which causes massive backups.
It also doesn't help that I-110 is a disaster because of construction and they decided to go ahead and screw everyone by working on Jefferson at the same time.
So typical of Baton Rouge.

Think of all the medical offices and patients going to them each day. I believe shift change at OLOL is 7am and 3pm. Add all the people that work at United Plaza…then another hospital and you have a shite show. It’s been bad since the early 90’s but now I avoid it as much as I can.

Essen and college for as short as they both are, is the worst I’ve ever seen for such a short distance.
Posted on 3/15/24 at 7:42 am to TigerFan0225
Speaking of Jefferson, what is actually going on there? That road was fine.

The light cycles at Sherwood and S Harrells Ferry are a cluster. It seems like such a simple problem to fix but they've been that way for years.

College, to me, is at least easily avoidable. I lived in the neighborhood behind Bennington for years and between Bennington, congress, and constitution, there was always a way to bypass college or at the very least only need to cross it.

the decision to demolish and replace jefferson highway during the interstate construction is mind boggling to me.

the fricking worst.
on top of being constantly backed up the actual road is a full of pot holes and is falling apart.

It was like that 20 years ago.
It's not uncommon for city and state governments to expect road pavement to last 25 years. But only Louisiana expects it to last 25 years without ever seeing any patchwork, re-stripe work, quick seal, or street sweepers.

You must have never driven Jefferson. There were serious deformations in the concrete. They would try and fix it and it would last literal days (not even weeks).
The part from Bluebonnet to Airline isn’t quite as bad and they likely could have pushed it off, but I guess since they are doing the rest they might as well do that side too.

I have the misfortune of living between 10 and 12 on Essen. It is a cluster frick from sun up to sun day every day now. It used to only be at lunch and at 5pm. I don’t even try to take a right out of my neighborhood towards Jefferson, I go left and get on 10 and go around to where I need to go even if it’s way out of the way. frick that stretch from i10 to Jefferson

I can relate. It took me 20mins to go less than 2 miles on Essen the other day.
