Used Vehicle Pricing

I am looking at a used Toyota Tacoma. I found one that was originally listed at $31,895, then a few weeks later it went up to $33,895, and is now back down to $32,895. How much room for negotiation is there on used vehicles and what could I get this vehicle for?

Jesus…30k for a used midsize truck!?
Find comparable models elsewhere. I typically use true car to gauge sales

How many miles are on the used Tacoma? Mileage can be a tool for leverage in many cases.

You probably won’t get them below 30

Buy a new frontier. The price of a new frontier is the cost of a used Tacoma

There is no negotiation on a Tacoma.... None

wait until you see interest rates on used vs new right now in Louiaiana. Been looking at used cars with around 50,000 miles for my daughter. Bit the bullet yesterday and ordered a budget friendly new small suv. The interest rate savings made it pretty much pointless to buy used.

I have a 2019 with <30k miles on it, and the dealer I bought it from offered me more than $32k last month. Not sure how much room there is.

i drive by a small used car lot everyday. the prices there perplex me. maybe im just out of touch with the market but its not uncommon for me to see cars 10 years old with 20-30k price stickers on them.
wtf. who pays that for a used car?

Ive been looking as well. Not much luck and Im not paying $30k+ for a used truck. Im at the point where Im just going to keep my truck just for the times I need to pull something and just pick up a used Accord to drive back and forth to work.

In 2019, I bought a 2017 Tacoma for 30.5k. It had 29k miles and was loaded (4wd, manual, TRD Offroad)
I wasn't able to negotiate it down very much as there were less than 10 for sale in the US and the closest one was Mobile.
All that to say, if it has less than 35k miles and isn't a base model, 31k is close to as low as you'll be able to find at a stealership. If you shop a couple states over you might find one at $29,999

In your shoes. It's tax season and they're fluctuating the prices depending on buying trends. I've been to quite a few dealerships, and they're all firm on pricing within a few hundred bucks. The ones that aren't make me skeptical.

Find out how long it's been in inventory. Anything over 45 days is usually when the need to move motivates discounts. Most dealerships "Floorplan vehicles" which means they pay monthly interest on unsold inventory.
Vehicles that are new to inventory or in high demand will have sales people calling all of their customers that are on a "watch list" to contact them if a desired vehicle arrives. After a month, it will start costing a dealer to keep a unit on the ground.
