so are all my downvotes from people that don’t think weather has a tremendous impact on how a ball comes off of a bat, or from people that don’t remember that last February and March was warmer with more southerly winds than is normal for BR that time of year?

Yes, the wind blowing in can put a damper on home runs, I agree.
That doesn’t change the fact that we got outhit today and our ONLY RUN of the game was unearned.
I’m not jumping off a cliff. Jay knows how to coach offense and he has some horses in the stable.
But this was some poor offense we’ve seen this past week.

One run vs Xavier 3rd pitcher
Was at the game today. His slider was absolutely disgusting. Not even balls that weren’t close. He was throwing them basically belt high and they ended up almost at the ankles once it crossed the plate. Tip your cap. He was also sitting low 90s on his 4 seam.
This was the definition of a trap series. I’ll take 2/3 every weekend honestly.
Lets also not forgot that Xavier knocked off Vandy last year in their house.

not just wind direction.
temps, humidity, etc.
all of that has a huge effect.

A lot of guys that just need at bats to get more comfortable. I suspect they will continue to struggle early in SEC play then figure out a lineup and be respectable by the end of the year.
I don’t think they’ll be a great hitting team but with this pitching staff they just need to be good. There aren’t many things on this earth I trust more than Jay Johnson figuring out how to put a good hitting team on the field.

Maybe they could take pointers from the women’s basketball team

Xavier had exact same weather conditions we did. Out hit us 7-5.

Tanks and Trav are gonna have to hit over 350 for us to have a chance. I think Monster will be around there at season's end. I'd like to see the current teams batting average vs the end of last season. Our overall pitching is surely stronger than last season, if we can just hit better. Overall, I ain't too worried.

A. was talking about in general and not specific to just today
B. Nicholls outhit us 10-7 last year. that must mean we have no shot at accomplishing anything in 2023.

I might have dreamed this so please forgive me. Didn’t UCLA or some other west coast team win a natty in Omaha with a team BA of like .260 ? Great pitching but anemic hitting ? I might be wrong.

I agree. LSU has faced mid/ lower tier teams except Texas, and they were not very good. The fact that a lot of those games were close and lost to Stony Brook, Xavier, and should have lost to SLU. The hitting has seemed to struggle. Several hitters in the lineup will struggle to sniff .300 come sec play. They decent pitching we have will be magnified every game cause we will struggle to hit. Around 6 players will hit Below 300 in sec play. You can easily see which players have a much lower hitting IQ at the plate than a few of the better hitters.

LSU hasn’t played anyone with above average pitching.
So Lebarron Johnson from UT isn’t above average?

last year we worried about the pitching. Now we're worried about the hitting.
Just enjoy the baseball season.

Different bats then. If they used these bats LSU would have beat them in game one of the CWS that year.
You have to be able to hit some in Omaha to win it all now.
