re: Why do so many modern young women intentionally make themselves less attractive?

High waisted pants
I don't know what magazine convinced them it was cool, but it sucks. My suspicion, based on paying attention, is that is allows women to pull their belts very tight well above their waists (near rib level) to accentuate their hips. Fine.
But way, way, too many middle aged women don't bother with trying to make it look good for their bodies. No belt, too loose, yada yada. It's great to be a dude and just wear a suit that isn't too loose.

I believe it’s a psychological thing.
There is a sizeable cohort of American women who are basically incapable of loving themselves.
They exhibit narcissistic tendencies, but it’s not a traditional narcissist “I’m so f’in great look at me!” thing.
It’s like they don’t love themselves so they pleasure seek via social media, dopamine response (men are guilty of this too) and via social causes to try to fill the void.
They loathe themselves and their close friends but believe themselves incapable of fixing their condition so they blame it on the patriarchy, politics, their childhood, their spouse, etc. rather than have to accept any ownership of their condition or responsibility for improving it.
Our society, as a whole, started shite-canning pride in appearance by the late 60's, and totally gave up over the past 30 years or so.
I don't disagree with your assessment of modern women, but the same must hold true for men, or else, what's their excuse to be out here looking like shite?

The high waist pants is not flattering

My Jocko T shirts are never wrinkled.
My hair is tight, my CCL is properly carried, and I have LPCs that I can walk 15+ miles in if I need to (it's happened before.)
It's simple with men, though. Men do the minimum of what gets them laid. Women accept total garbage, so that's what a lot of men do.

Men are a whole different mess.
To clarify, I wasn't even speaking specifically to appearance externally, but what I see as a disease that is rooted internally yet presents from a symptom standpoint in some of the appearance items others have mentioned in this thread.
I agree that men have declined from an appearance standpoint, I just think their decline is for other reasons.
I also excluded obesity because that to me is the number one cause of aesthetic decline across gender. That issue sources back to primarily to diet, but a significant improvement in perceived attractiveness would be achieved if the average American lost 10-20lbs.
Setting aside diet based obesity, there is a huge cohort of men who in my opinion have basically given up trying to attract a female and for that reason have put on weight, let their grooming and dressing go and look like a stereotype of an incel or gamer as a result.
Im not a sociologist or anthropologist, but I'd bet that much of what we've seen historically from men trying to look appealing in a traditional way stems from trying to pass on their genes.
When a sizeable percentage of men give up on that quest, why would we expect them to maintain the effort that went into looking good for women?
Call it depression.
Call it nihilism.
Call it being rejected in the dating market.
However you want to define the state they find themselves in post dating, once they quit trying to find a spouse a decent segment of men also give up on anything outside of whatever suits their own hobbies like gaming, etc and which usually doesn't require them to look good in a traditional sense.

This seems a lot like what I was referring to when I said that pride in appearance has largely vanished as a common virtue. If your desire to look fit, neat, and presentable is solely influenced by the likelihood of getting laid? IDK... that doesn't sound like personal pride to me.
And don't get me wrong, I'm not sitting on my couch dressed like Jordan Peterson. I just think the current state of affairs is equally applicable to both sexes, and all ages.

Toxic animals in nature have bright colors to warn others. Human women are just doing the same.,simps of course ignore those warnings

You’ll get more attention in a sundress these days than a fight fitting outfit.

Well, yes. Men only bathe, cut their hair, change shirts, etc., as often as their women demand they do. You and I are not like that, but we're older. Men do what women let them get away with. Do you recall the shite that E-2s did with women?
Men would be better if women demanded it. But they don't, so men slack, or at least that's been my observation.
If you want a focus of hate that I have, don't wear hats inside. I'm in the minority, clearly. We probably need to create a new thread about manners at this point.

Do you and the men you associate with only make decisions based on what you think women will find attractive? If so, that seems odd.

Because we have allowed the losers who are bitter about never being asked to the school dance be in charge of the social narrative.

Because they are in the mindset that they don’t need to conform to society’s rule nor do they need to follow *your* definition of “attractive.”
Now, whether of not that works out for them is another matter entirely. Some will still find a man, others will convince themselves that being single is better than the alternative.

this style appears to be more often than not the norm than the exception.
Style = Fashion. Like any popular fashion, it usually starts with some musician/actress/celebrity/revered-figure/political-icon starting a bizarre but unique trend, then it works its way into peer groups/tribes until it's no longer unique or bizarre, which from that pool then produces more derivative trend-setters that add-on bizarre but unique elements, until there is a whole generation of grotesque femi-nazi wildebeests.
