OK...I'll admit that asking Zion to average a triple double might be a bridge too far so..

---I'm gonna be content if he can just average 8 assists from here on in...and maybe 10 assists come playoff time. "Point Zion" is the ONLY option this team has, to move up to the next level. I can live with 5/6 rebounds per game...but the guy MUST become an assist maniac to make our other players MUCH better. We need our own little "Joker"...maybe minus some of the rebounds...

---Now, if somebody can just convince Zion that he would be one of the best players in the league IF...he could adjust his game to get those 8-10 assists per game...the Pels would be in business. (BTW: Preferably, most would be "kick out for open 3" assists, since those count as 1 1/2 assists...in my book))

You do realize only 8 players in the entire NBA are averaging 8+ assists per game this season, right?

Yep...I checked on that before posting...but a "Point Zion" would find assists much easier to get than a normal PG...since he has so much gravity. 8...wouldn't be that difficult for him...assuming he's looking to make the pass. And BTW: we've got outside shooters !!!

For the last 15 games Zion is at 11.7 potential assists and 6.7 actual assists per game. Looking at the top of the list, he only needs about 3 more potential assists a game to crack 8 actual assists. LINK

He's only averaging 31.2 MPG in that span, so it might be as simple as getting in good enough shape to play 34 MPG instead of 31.

To average that many assists would mean Zion would have to lead the team in assists per game. That won’t happen because the best play maker and leader in assists is BI. Zion would have to be a better playmaker than BI and I don’t think that’s happening anytime soon.

In those last 15 games he's also beating BI slightly, 6.7 apg vs 6.3 for BI in 2 more minutes per game.

That gap is even larger if you do last 8 games.

There would be an argument if it felt more random. But it's pretty clear since the break, we're slowly shifting more and more to a Zion centric offense, so the expectation for the remaining 20 games will be Zion leading the team in assists for those 20 games.

Every factor we looked at...seemed to make Point Zion an even stronger option. Just gotta convince the guy to make that very easy "kick out" pass when he invariably draws that extra defender or two. Of course, this should also eventually lead to Zion having a much easier path to the basket when teams decide to stay at home instead of building that wall, for Zion.

There are assists...and there are ASSISTS. This is why, overall, we think a Doncic assist is worth more than a Harden or Trae Young assist. This is before even considering the "hockey assist" aspect.

Bottom line...Zion could be the best of all worlds as far as "ASSISTS" are considered. A very easy "kick out assist" option resulting in the 3-pt assist or possibly the 3-pt hockey assist. Our outside shooters don't seem to mind making that extra pass to a teammate who is open at the 3-pt line when the defense tries to react to the Zion kick out. Usually the defense is unable to even get close to that 2nd guy.

So my post was kind of a weak troll attempt but I didn’t realize how much Zions assist numbers have improved. Obviously good to see. We’re such a unique team, it’s great to watch.
