How big is your family?

We went last summer. 3 Bedroom condo for 4 nights was around $2700 in the phoenix X. My parents and sister came with Wife, kid and I, so I split the payment 50/50 with parents.

We probably spent $400-$500 on a grocery haul for the week at Publix.

Walked over to Flora-Bama had a few drinks one night and had a nice dinner the last night. Rented Jet Ski's one day. We don't go out to eat every night of vacation. I'd say we spent less than $1000 on extra stuff aside from the room and beach and had a great time.

me, wife and 3 kids. MIL lives with us and usually goes though

yea i said its possible but between your 500 grocery haul, your 1 night out to dinner, your 2700 on the room, 300 on gas, plus jet skis....you spent over 3500 if you were not splitting it

i dont think it would be good to have my parents, my sister, plus her kids, my family etc all in a 3 bedroom place unless we want to be on top of one another

I said early its certainly possible to do under 3500 but it requires splitting the condo with another family or not being on the beach and then requires eating in almost every meal and very very little entertainment besides the beach.

That's fine if that's what you like, but Roger loves to judge others, especially when it comes to how they spend money.

personally not my thing. would rather have my own condo on the beach, go to dinner most nights, go walk around and shop during the day when it gets stupid hot, grab some lunch and maybe some ice cream....go play golf with my kids, go off shore some, parasail, jet skis etc

i dont wanna wake up cook breakfast, go to the beach, go back to the condo eat lunch and nap, then go back then go cook, then go take them out to hunt crabs every single day and night for 5 days straight. On top of that cleaning dishes, cleaning the condo, washing and folding clothes......doesnt sound like a vacation to me

for example, i could do gulf shores for that. would be 4 or max 5 days, would prolly have to not be on the beach or would have to share the condo with another family or we would not be able to do anything other than the beach

Yo are so out of touch with pricing that I really don't see what you're doin in the thread at this point.

$3500 splitting the condo cost will have you living mighty nice just about anywhere in gulf shores for 4 nights

lol i think you misunderstood

i was saying yea i could easily do it but would require splitting the room if i wanted something nice

i looked up the pricing for week days only for on the beach in gulf shores which is cheaper, in june. and 2br is going to be between 300-400 a night.

i laid out that yea its doable if i dont split and going for 5 days, weekdays only and really no eating out and not doing anything else besides that

to be able to have entertainment options i would have to split.

I don't misunderstand you. There are plenty beachfront condos you can rent all by yourself and stay under $3500 total cost for 4 nights including meals.

You have fancy tastes and can afford them apparently. That's fine. But you very clearly don't grasp what is possible with lesser budgets.

Yeah, not wanting to cook every meal on a vacation. He's clearly leading an aristocratic lifestyle. You and Roger are doing pulling some weird moral judgment based on your magic $3500 number (funny how the line is drawn where you feel comfortable affording it, huh?).

This board is so odd with this sometimes. Mowing your own grass is another moral judgment trope on this board. I'll tell you what, you all go enjoy mowing your own grass and cooking all your own meals on vacation. I'll just be an immoral person.

ETA: And by the way, if we're following you and Roger, the most moral person in this thread is the guy a few pages back who doesn't vacation and just stays home watching TV. That guy's a Saint.

I didn't come up with that number. Love all the strawmen you added there at the end. I never said any of that. But you're right, this board is fricking weird.

I draw the line at having to lug a bunch of heavy shite out each day. Why the gulf coast doesn't have more full service resorts with pool/beach service is beyond me. We've paid to do a panhandle vacation exactly 1 time in the 12+ years we've been together.

I couldn't tell you the price of condos these days, but I know last time we priced it out it was the same price as the trip we had recently done where we flew to Chicago and ate in restaurants the entire time.

Admittedly, a beach condo is probably more "per head" when you're just 2 people versus splitting it up with a big family. I definitely could see it being economical if you have a big group and you're cooking.

you are right, i didnt have it set on low price first, there are some for ~250ish

so you could get away with it at 1250 or so after taxes and fees, but for a family of 5, gonna be stacked on top of one another

lets say gas is 350ish so we are at 1600 total so far

leaves about 1900 for everything which is certainly doable

but not gonna be a ton of entertainment or eating out but some for sure.

so like i said...you can do a vacation for 4 nights to gulf shores for a family for under 3500 but thats about the floor. could prolly do 3k if you really tighten down

and ftr i never said you couldnt do it, just said that its not much of a vacation imo. and yea im a little spoiled because in my 20s that was an awesome vacation. and i firmly grasp what possible with a lesser budget

but that doesnt mean someone has a spending problem if you dont do vacation for under 3500. frankly i wouldnt want to do for only 4 nights. imo anything less than 6 nights is not even worth the drive. but to each their own

im not judging someone for spending less or more than i do like you and roger are.

the guy who is a "saint" has freely admitted to being a swinger back in the day and allowing his wife at the time to be railed by other guys

i think ill make my own moral judgements instead of relying on a guy who lives in BFE alaska to make them for me.

No, you're free to go back and read the actual quote and to whom it was said to. But that would require you to stop blowing yourself.

youre not nearly as smart as you believe, and no where near as rich as you pretend to be on this board.

No one is bitching, youre just illiterate and cant understand the simplicity of what was said.

Youre projecting like a mother fricker.

Anyone claiming they cannot vacation for under 3500 is a legit retard, but that doesnt mean its wrong to spend 30k if you have it.

If you need more mansplaining, I'm here.

I'm missing where morality got into this discussion, but I largely ignore roger's posts, so I may have missed it
