First of all Zendaya is barely a minority. You’re acting like they cast Leslie Jones. The Fremen are clearly middle eastern inspired so she’s right on the nose ethnicity.

I agree she wasn’t that great, but I think that’s relative to how great Chalamet and Bardem and Butler were. Overall her increased role served a purpose of highlighting what Paul was giving up when he embraced his role as messiah, and the moral ambiguity that entailed.

Villeneuve has said he sees Paul’s story as a Michael Corleone analogue, and so it makes sense to focus on that aspect.

Tl;dr - As much as Hollywood is often focused on wokeness at the expense of quality, if you see that here you’re officially too ate up by it.

You are misreading my comments— I made no suggestion otherwise. The deep spirituality and the physical hardiness of the Fremen is a major theme in Herbert’s overall vision so I have no issue with Chani serving as a moral figure in the film adaptation.

I indeed thought the film was well cast: I especially like Javier Bardem as Stilgar. He brought both great humor and poignancy to the character.
