I've liked all versions, from the Lynch movie back in '84, the SyFy take & the most recent. Though to be honest, I don't remember much of the SyFy stuff, just that I thought it was well done.

I'm trying not to pay attention to the praise, no offense, because I think some of it might have to do with a lack of decent movies and shows, thanks to current day.

But by all accounts I'm still hearing that it's really up there, so we'll see.

Lynch movie

IMO, it fails as a stand-alone film: I had not yet read the book when I first saw in theaters so I was completely lost. It inspired me to seek out the book though.

And several years after reading the novel, I revisited the Lynch version again on VHS and appreciated what the film tried to accomplish. It was a great visual feast.

It’s being over praised in media because of the Chani change. It’s a very good movie but her screen time, acting and character change stopped this from being an alltime great movie.
