That's a very nice sac au lait. I'd take that all day every day. That young man has a trophy. Period.

Not black species though. Hammer none the less.

A trophy is different for everyone. It's not going to set any records but that is a dang fine fish
Exactly. I have a 3 lbs bass on the wall because at 10, it was the biggest fish I'd ever caught up to that point.

remember seeing one mounted at a restaurant around Toledo bend that was 4 lbs.

Big ole bucket mouth! Trophy catch for me!

I would call it black before calling it white, but I’m no crappie specialist.
Trophy as in records, no.
Trophy as in bigger than most people in here have caught, yes. He might not ever catch one that size again, unless he goes after them in the lakes known for Crappie.
Wish I could find a mess of some that size right now. A good Sac-a-Lait bite is hard to beat when the big ones are doing it.

Anyone know what size is considered a trophy?
A trophy and a record can de different.
World record bass is 22lbs 4oz
How many people have 10 or even 8 lbs bass on their wall?
That is a trophy. Congrats to the young man.

We were there last week watching the pro's but also got some fishing in. Got on a mess of 'em and caught several pound and three quarters. Biggest was 2.1lbs, right at 16" and to me that was a trophy. I'd never caught them that big. Agree that it depends on the lake but also the fisherman.
It was easily my biggest but for Toledo, that's fairly average.

I’ve seen a huge mount somewhere too but don’t remember the weight or where. I was informed later in life that a few taxidermist in Louisiana will mount a triple tail and paint it as a sacalait. Tomfoolery got me again!

Kinda looks like a white to me but solid fish non the less. May be hard pressed to beat that for a long time. Over 2 1/2 is a sure enough hammer in my book

That's a really nice white sacalait. That should definitely be a trophy to him. I caught one last year just over 16" that is my PB. Was over 2, but not 3 pounds. Still a trophy to me.

Black crappie have 7-8 spines in the dorsal fin. A white crappie has 6. Science.
