Needs a Hooters a block away. Closest bars and restaurants 4-5 blocks away. Need infrastructure right around there.

Yeah that's ridiculous. We do not need more seating, we need better seating, better configurations. More modern amenities.

The place is a dump

The 1st thing the Pels need to do is put fans in the seats
that they have. That place is empty unless a big name comes
to town. The state of LA.nor the city of N.O should spend
one nickle of Tax payer money for a sport that is NOT
SUPPORTED.Those hotel tax dollars need to be spent on the
security of the people in the city.
The schools are the worse, the crime is horrible ,the
police understaffed and people want to spend 200 to who knows how many millions so we can watch some player put a
ball through the hoop.O how have our priorities been skewed.

It is a dump by modern standards. Likely the worst arena in the entire NBA.

The new arena would likely be a multi purpose arena. For a city who the mainstream revenue comes from tourism. This is kind of a necessity.

How many artists skip New Orleans nowadays because of venue?

I agree someone sensible and deterministic around security needs to be in charge of the city. However, the city’s citizens continually vote in quite frankly Low IQ idiots. So that’s on them.

Other locations keep coming up but the best location is right next door. Even if you tear down an existing garage there are still more than enough parking spaces for an NBA crowd. Also the site has the best access in the region, any other place you built would require the City/State to spend $100-$200 million on infrastructure (the new MSY flyover ended up costing well over $200 million) just to make the site feasible.

The New Orleans Arena since 2016 has generated over 200M in revenue outside of 2020 (Covid).

Imagine if those numbers doubled or tripled with a revitalized area of the city included? Would be worth it.

I live in nola and totally agree. The hotel tax that goes to the state was meant decades ago to stand up the convention center. Job done, stop hoarding it. Now, it's going to luxuries like a new district for a convention center hotel and top golf--I'm all for development but those are luxuries compared to dire needs of the city. Instead of a cause in search of funds, it's now funds in search of a cause, which is bad for taxpayers.

But the state government won't stop hoarding it. The people against spending state dollars for a new stadium need to understand much of that money would be financed by nola hotel taxes.

Or better than a stadium, stop hoarding the tax money for BS and work something out to improve schools, infrastructure, and safety. The city def has a lot of problems, but the hate here goes overboard esp when the state is hoarding a huge pot of city-generated money.

From a pre-covid BGR report:

Hotel taxes will yield an estimated $200 million in 2019, accounting for about one-sixth of all local tax revenues in Orleans Parish. Of this amount, 75.5%, or $150.9 million, goes to entities that support tourism marketing, conventions and professional sports. The share for general municipal purposes is 9.5%, or $18.9 million.
...
The New Orleans Ernest N. Morial Convention Center has accumulated $235 million in unrestricted reserves largely because it continues to receive a 1% hotel tax, two hotel tax dedications, and a citywide food and beverage tax ($22 million in total for 2019) that were originally intended for an expansion project it deferred indefinitely after Hurricane Katrina. The center’s new five-year $557 million capital plan could decrease the unrestricted reserves to $122 million upon completion of the plan in 2022. However, the reserves could begin growing again by $25 million a year in 2023, according to a financing scenario the center’s financial consultant prepared." LINK

They average over 17k a game. It will be even more with a better arena. I think all that needs to happen is to move it on Rampart. Would be right next to a bunch of restaurants and bars. Would be awesome and still easy to get to.

I see some are not accounting for natural population increases over the next 20 years. 25 thousand seating will be the norm.

The goal is to field a quality team that competes consistently for playoff appearances and that WILL put bodies in those vacant seats. And that means as many as the venue can hold.
How else does anyone expect to pay the luxury tax, at any point and/or when a team is worthy of such a distinction, without the ability to generate more revenue.

There is a reason that certain musical acts do not come to New Orleans. SKC too small and Superdome too big.
A new arena is critical to ensuring this team remains in N.O. indefinitely. Don't think so? Ask Seattle.

That’s a pretty specific slice of entertainment. I think you’d have a difficult time providing data showing considerable upside to shifting capacity to secure those shows.

exactly. For concerts:

UNO holds 10000
SKC holds 18000
dome holds 50000+

plus a dozen or so four figure theaters

not an issue of venue availability or capacity

I think demographics play a bigger part

90% is demographics, 10% is the hands out by the city with taxes. Most Rock bands dropped NOLA off rotation 20 years ago.

Provide an example which illustrates venue size is the issue. Do other NBA arenas have that much more capacity?
