Does anyone have any recommendations on a flight schools in the Acadiana area? I found a couple on Google but wanted to see if there were any private pilots that would recommend one over the other and why. Want to do fixed wing if that make a difference.

What are your goals? Are you going career route? Just getting a PPL?
How old are you?
Some extra info would help.

I wanna get my helicopter rating. Can I do that in BR?

Owens is at Lafayette airport. Got my private ticket there in his Cessna 152. $140/hour is the cheapest around if you can fit in it. Very laid back operation. Good people.
There's also Fly Louisiana at the New Iberia airport. Have taken a few lessons there. Very professional feeling organization and nicely equipped planes.
That's about it unless you wanna join a flight club at Abbeville.
Edit- There's also a new operation at Abbeville called Windsock Aviation. It's also a small Cessna 150.

Any Part 61 operation will work then. The benefit of 61 is you can do pretty much any method of training. Meaning, you can join a flight club that has a CFI, you can find a flight school, or even find a CFI who trains in their own plane.
I’d recommend finding a place that allows you to do computer-based learning for ground lessons. Something like Jeppesen or King Air. It will save you a lot of money.
The alternative is to pay your instructor an hourly fee for the ground lessons.

Consider Light Sport. Doesn't take as long and some of the new LSA's are really cool, but the license comes with more restrictions.

I went to a Jeppesen weekend ground school at a hotel near the Lafayette airport when I got my license. I guess everything has now gravitated to on-line learning.

It’s the best way to do it IMO.
Paying a CFI to teach you ground would likely result in an additional few thousand dollars. When you’re already dropping nearly, 20k for the entire process, that extra cost needs to be prevented.
The online ground school is a few hundred dollars and can be completed at the learner’s pace.
As long as the student pilot takes it seriously and doesn’t push it off until the end, it’s a good investment.

I am a lapsed pilot who wants to return to flying, but so much has changed since the last time I was a PIC. I don't know where to begin.
