Gotta at least put First ultimate fighter finale Griffin vs Bonnar in the conversation. UFC would not be where it is today without that fight and that was one were people started tuning in halfway through because of word of mouth

that basketball game looks like a miserable experience.

I would rather watch a game at home than sit through a basketball game in a large football or baseball venue.

It simply doesn't work.

If you are close to the court you're too low to have depth perspective.

If you're up in a box you're too far away to enjoy it.

Hard pass.

The Vince Young Rose Bowl was a great one.

Just my opinion but this game was an absolute spectacle and for me at least represents the peak of college football as we knew it.

in the years following, the SEC started its reign of terror on the CFB world and kicked off the events that eventually would give us NIL and the playoffs.

It was on tape delay

Was it still televised? Since I was a 12 at the time I'll say yes and it was just as impactful. Living through the Cold War the USSR Olympic Teams were professionals that were not allowed to go pro because they would defect. The USSR Hockey was a machine. So you have the Cold War with the USA's mortal enemy in a game in which we were the underdogs. It was truly a miracle on ice.

It wasn’t televised, but broadcast over radio that had an audience of over 40,000,000. East Coast elites vs upstart West Coast bumpkins. A mutt vs a genetically superior animal of scientific breeding. Seabiscuit vs War Admiral.

If “greatest” means most impactful, then it’s likely the 1958 NFL championship game, Colts & John Unitas beating the Giants in sudden death. Not just a great game in itself, but the telecast put the NFL on the map and led directly to the cultural phenomenon it is today.

I think Miracle On Ice. I was 12, and for those who say "it was tape delayed", that didn't matter back then. Most Olympics were tape delayed at the time, if the radio or TV networks didn't tip you off you didn't know who won.

The Olympics overall were so, so much more meaningful back then as compared to today. And as other have mentioned, it was a cultural USA vs USSR event at the time, didn't matter your political slant. Dem, GOP, didn't matter; you were "USA" in this. And the hope was to not get slaughtered too badly by that Red Army team. What that match became with us winning, surpasses all the other legendary events.
