I'm asking because I honestly don't know, but how is this Bungie's issue? Isn't Bungies biggest thing right now just Destiny 2, and that's pretty much dead?

It is more about missing sales targets and having nothing to drive sales before April 2025.
Would they have made the cuts if they did? We will never know, because the missed sales targets.
Inflation is a thing, and the number of people wanting to drop $400+ on a console and/or $70 games has been reduced globally.
Sony needs to evolve the way they look at gaming.

Bungie, without Halo, is not a seller. Destiny isn't Halo. They weren't scammed. They made a bad decision. Simple as that.
Jim Ryan was more concerned with chasing headlines than the bottom line.

Umm let’s see, Resident evil 3, Dead island 2, the Dead Space remake, Forza Motorsport just to name a few. They are all awesome games and haven’t paid for a one of them. Y’all can say what you want about gamepass but they have been churning out good games lately.

Spot on. When this next round of Game Pass expires for me in about 1.5 years, I will have had Game Pass for the last 6 years for maybe around $400 total.

Exactly. I don’t like to see people lose their jobs either but it seems like the London Studio served their purpose and no longer were in Sony’s plans.

Same boat here, and over that time I've been able to hoard so many Microsoft Rewards points that I'll be able to keep Game Pass for at least 2 more years without paying another dime for it (assuming I don't earn another reward point during that time).

No, it’s more about current monetary policy and economic conditions. Look at every other tech company lol. Cisco just cut 4000, eBay cut 1000, Microsoft cut 2000, PayPal cut 2500, Amazon cut 20,000 last year. The market is correcting itself from the free money environment we just left to the inflationary, high-rate environment we’re in now. It’s a tale as old as time. When rates go up, you cut.

I disagree here, as this is Sony having zero innovation for the future of gaming
That has absolutely zero to do with layoffs. They're closing a non-productive studio and like every single other big tech company, they're laying off after over hiring in the post-COVID hiring boom that the industry had.
Some of the takes in this thread are quite interesting. I've been gone too long and shocked to hear anything positive about MS's "vision" for the gaming space.

I really don't understand why people don't believe there was a COVID bubble with tech company hires.

This is fine, in my opinion.

A 4 year old game
6 month old game
a year old game(that's actually from 2008)
and another 6 month old game.
I guess aspergers gives ya'll some looooong arse attention spans? That's a sad list my man.
