You see MLB shortstops spike double play balls all of the time. It’s one of the hardest things to do in the middle infield.

Is it a play that SHOULD be made? Yes.

Is there zero reason it’s not made? Cmon man. There’s a ton of moving parts that all have to be done with perfect timing with a man barreling down the base paths straight for you. There are dozens of reasons why the throw is in the dirt. It’s not like he threw it 6 rows into the bleachers.
