Doesn't matter as much for baseball, but for contact sports like football you can argue its a safety concern. Matte finishes tend to be more sticky during collisions, while glossier finishes deflect or slide off contact a lot more. Basically what that means is matte could result in more head injuries.

So does Oregon only get concussions when they bring out their matte helmets? Is that why they rotate helmet styles so often? Wow

Yeah, the friction required to matter in a high speed impact would be astronomical. It’s not.
