GA Bluefish Temp Ban - Weird Explanation

From our Karen in the coastal division of GA DNR-
quote:
"Recent assessments by the Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission (ASMFC) indicate that Bluefish stocks are overfished, but not experiencing overfishing," said Carolyn Belcher, chief of marine fisheries for DNR’s Coastal Resources Division (CRD). "This means the population has declined below levels that can support maximum sustainable yield. By taking proactive measures now, we can help rebuild the Bluefish population and ensure a healthy fishery for future generations."

That was my first thought, I don't know anyone that targets them in GA/SC... they get caught by accident, and usually turned around and used is shark bait or crab trap bait or otherwise released back into nature.
But I read the article anyway. "They aren't being overfished but due to overfishing we are banning fishing for them" is an odd thing to say in an official statement.

Choppers are fine eating if bled out, fresh and you remove the blood line. They do not freeze great but even frozen bluefish makes good ceviche if it was bled out and the blood lone was removed. If they are tossed on ice and filleted later and frozen they are about like a jack or a bonito LOL...but bled out, blood line removed and cooked fresh they are very good. Used to commonly be the catch of the day in small restaurants from Wilmington to Rhode Island at least. I have eaten a bunch of them from the surf from Wilmington to Brownsville.

Cut throat.
Put in saltwater bucket upside down.
Bleed out.
Filet.
Fry.
Pretty good if you aren’t catching anything else.

I must have an Asian in the woodpile somehow or other because I tend to agree with this sentiment...I have found almost all fish are pretty good eating if handled and prepared properly...and there is always Ceviche...
