Anyone know if a state of emergency like this one means anything close to what the public-health emergency declaration under Edwards meant in terms of giving the governor broad, sweeping, special powers to basically decimate people’s moral agency and civil liberties?

Or is that just my PTSD-induced paranoia in overdrive?

I’m just now seeing this.

If it has already been discussed and I missed the post, just nuke this one . . . apologies in advance if that’s the case.

Law enforcement agencies around the country are struggling to find candidates.

This is a huge problem that the leftists have caused.

It’s mainly going to affect larger cities and that’s completely on them.

Sounds like he is getting ready to show New Orleans that they do have a state to answer to.

NOLA.com has more detail

quote:

Gov. Jeff Landry has declared a state of emergency that allows sheriffs to immediately hire more deputies and increase payrolls in a bid to highlight what the Louisiana Sheriffs' Association calls a deputy shortage across the state

Something bad is going to happen soon. The govt is all pro police lately, even dems now saying they’ve always backed the blue.

Precisely what I thought when I saw this. If he gets the guard or state police to take over NOLA’s law enforcement agency, I’d go from hoping he slips on a cat turd to his biggest fan overnight.

Not sure his play here but I don’t like a state of emergency being called for this. Seems like government overreach but I’m sure there’s some type of funding he can be eligible for by doing this.

Because criminals have taken over every city and people are tired of it. Things can definitely get worse, but shite it pretty bad already.

Then the democrats that caused the problems will be the ones that suffer from it first. Rejoice with the knowledge that the A-holes that caused the problem will be the ones that suffer first. They voted for it, let them suffer from it. They deserve it.

Agreed. Po dunk Wyoming has a full staff while places like NY and NO or struggling to replace those the retire or resign.

Just talked to a bunch of chiefs in Wisconsin and Sheriffs in CO and the bigger departments in lib cities are suffering big time. They are having to reduce the requirements to be considered.

Where they used to get 100 applicants for a job they are lucky to get 3 and those 3 aren’t great.

Sounds like BRPD these days and they brought it on themselves with SWB and MP.

They told rank and file they were going to get used as a cumrag if a two time loser doesn’t want to go back for a long stretch… unless you happen to be part of Q Dog.

How will he show this? By sending back all the revenue the state gets from New Orleans?

Good. We don't need to be a police state.

Bypassing NOPD, therefore avoiding the consent decree, would improve things as a start.
