Did I really just see a successful bunt?

The plan is to play a little more small ball this year.

Yeah. Transfer portal guy. Jay knew what we needed

CJJ told you this? Just curious

No. He's doing a little thing called talking out of his arse

Not Jay. I actually heard the other JJ say it. He said the team is more athletic than last year and we should see more bunt and steals.

So, maybe you should have posted,
so that everyone could have known who the "other JJ" is.

It’s situational. Give me a three run dinger or a base clearing double any day. I didn’t see it, so I don’t know the situation. You don’t send a HITTER up to trade an out for a base until late in a game. I really love the aesthetics of a squeeze play.

Well, we were losing by one in the bottom of the 6th inning, so we bunted two runners over with 0 outs.
We scored 5 runs that inning.

How often does it work like that? It’s usually assumed that you’re trading an out for a base. The only reason they did it the second time is it worked the first time. The 6th inning is a bit early. Outs are valuable commodities in a game where a 1 out 3 success rate is winning.

Quite often when you hate your 2, 3, and 4 hole hitters following the bunt

You're going to get downvoted, but you're right. Bunting in a run on a squeeze is one thing, but sacrifice bunting almost never is the right analytical play.

One run game. Runners at first and second. No outs. A guy who can handle the bat at the plate with some speed.
Yea I am bunting in that situation every single time. I don’t care if it’s the first or the ninth or anywhere in between.

Depends who in the lineup is following the bunt.
Bunting to bring up your 8 and 9 hole hitters might not be the analytical play, but bunting two runners over with your leadoff hitter ensures the double play is out of question and gets your best hitters up with runners in scoring position.

Baseball is alive and well. Arguing the bunt play.

It’s obvious just looking at the lineup, but for some reason you are getting downvoted. I don’t expect a lot of small ball but more than last year will be almost a certainty.

100% of the time when the bunt is sandwiched by three pitchers hitting five batters.
