3 out of how many?
I only know because Lester told me through this thread. If there are more I’m sure he knows
But 3 is a shite ton for one baseball team
We didn’t have a single person my entire graduating class. Oldest person in my graduating class at Catholic turned 18 in July summer before senior year.

Instead of being at lsu next year practicing and using all of those resources and competition, you are playing another year of high school…. It is of zero benefit to the child that old, only the school

The freshman spoken about is 16y 7 mo
The Soph lsu commitment is 17y 5mo
Hawsey & Pearson are both like 19.5
They have them in every grade

West Monroe has been doing this for 20 years. OCS longer than them. Nothing new at all. They just have some really good 19 year olds this year.

Are you under the impression that the people that do this are not the ones actually paying those taxes?

Even John Curtis stopped doing that, at least until the next generations of their big family come of age.
The one that transferred to. BR school and was family - was the right age

No I’m just not gonna whine about it. Every parent should make the decision that is best for their kid. All of my kids will be 18 when graduating and I could have em held my oldest back where he turned 19 right before graduation, but I didn’t because in our case it wasn’t in his best interest
I just don’t care either way is kind of my point and I see not a lot of downsides for the one doing it. Is it an advantage, absolutely but I’m not gonna get all pissy over it either

Well as someone that doesn’t get a refund it’s still a ripoff.
And holding back a kid for athletics is just wrong no matter how you slice it.

If they decide to holdback for that reason they should be on the hook for the cost

You never answered my question, if there was no LHSAA age rule, would you ever stop saying “who cares “ “it’s smart”? Surely you do have a cutoff right?

We’re talking about maybe one stud per grade… they didn’t know whom it was gonna be at the time so they probably held back like 20 kids lol
Something you might not be realizing… you think an extra year of maturity helps in high school? What do you think it does in college ball on and off the field?
Posted on 5/9/24 at 8:58 pm to lsupride87
Yea at some point it becomes stupid. I personally think the rule is you should turn 19 before first game but the rule is the rule. I’m just not gonna worry about it because it does no good, the rule is the rule and anyone can do it. I think courville turns 19 in like march of his senior year and many other teams have kids like that.
Back to baseball, Benton was really good and they are very young. Expect them to be very good going forward for sure.

Living here that entire time, the holdbacks are usually 3-4% of the total class…if that honestly. The most I remember in the hay day of holdbacks was 22 and that was in the 90s. It’s been much less prevalent since the rule changed to you must hold back prior to 6th grade. Now that it changed again, we will have to see where it goes from here.

Barbe has one I believe, the junior catcher but I think it’s march birthday when he turns 19. So not nearly like WM
I dunno of any others on barbe.
Barbe coaches will tell you to hold back and be older at graduation though if you can, holding them back in elementary school. Guidry was 19 when he graduated I believe. Never has as many as WM has
