re: For those that believe the NFL is rigged, what would it take to convince you otherwise?

Help me understand why the NFL being rigged would keep me awake at night? That has to be the dumbest thing I've ever heard.
The only sporting event that I ever lost sleep over was when I missed a Free Throw in middle school basketball to win a game in regulation with no time left. My team then lost in OT. I was crushed. LOL

So someone presents a legal case, with a legal review by a judge, and the response is an emoji. A legal ruling that it is protected entertainment is as authentic of an argument that one can make. Then, every Sunday, with your eyes and ears, you can see this play out. Yes, it is laughable at this point if you deny it.
As entertainment, the NFL can legally present its product in anyway it desires without any legal challenges from consumers claiming any and all manipulation.
Anyone that consistently and repeatedly argues defending the NFL officiating and the NFL in multiple threads and in large volume postings is paid to do so.
No normal poster makes these many posts. Money is the incentive to do so. Everyone has to eat. What a sad chosen profession.

I don't think he's a paid shill for the NFL. I think many just really and truly want to believe something they support is authentic.
People staunchly defend the SEC more than the NFL because it is more personal (likely attended a school in the SEC). I honestly think defending the SEC's blatant game fixing is worse, considering what the student athletes have to lose. Not all of them get NIL money. At least the NFL athletes are paid and somewhat protected by the rules. The SEC doesn't do a damn thing to protect the players, and it is sad.

This is utter silliness, driven by over entitled fans who think they’re the stars of the show, fans who are butt hurt because someone won other than who they thought should have won and, basically, insignificant people posting on message boards trying to act significant.
Fans are entitled, for the price of a ticket, to watch a game, get a few hours’ diversion out of it, and then get in their cars and go home and get on with their lives. Anyone who actually tried to take this conspiracy crap, straight from Guy Bannister and David Ferrie on the grassy knoll in Dealey Plaza, into court would be laughed out into the streets.

Correct.

Wrong. The fans that sued weren't "laughed into the streets". They were informed, from a legal standpoint, that the NFL is an entertainment product that can do whatever it wants.
Now, if those fans were smart, they would realize what this ruling reveals and quit buying season tickets, quit betting on games, or quit playing fantasy football, etc...
If they choose to continue to monetarily support a product they now legally know is tilted, that is their stupidity.
I park in these threads because I love the banter and I'm bored. I also am smart enough not to waste a lot of time, and more importantly, MONEY, on a product I know isn't authentic in the least. I'll win a few hundred bucks in fantasy football every January, buy my kids or GF something with the winnings, and life goes on.

You are reading WAY too much into that ruling.
Basically, what the conspiracy theorists are saying is that it would be metaphysically impossible for a game to have turned out opposite the way they wanted it to turn out without there being some type of sinister, nefarious activity and someone putting their thumb on the scale.
Or a coach doing something stupid, probably in some conspiratorial minds from having been put up to it by the league. People have been bitching since Sunday about Shanahan not running the ball enough in the second half. Full disclosure, I think he should have run the ball.
But I know exactly why he didn't run the ball, I've known it since Sunday. The NFL is a pass-centric, quarterback-driven league and it's more fun for the coaches and makes them look smarter to call pass plays than runs off tackle. That's all. Honestly, I think some of these geniuses in their heart of hearts wouldn't have a running back on the field if they could get by with it. But it's ego, not anything sinister.

Oh, I get that part, and I am one of those people that think the NFL is fixed. However, I am not one of those people that think there is a script, magnets in balls, etc. Nor do I think players orchestrate plays in unison. Do some get lazy and try not to get hurt? Absolutely. So would I.
On the actual ruling, I'm not reading way too much into it at all. I took it at face value. The NFL is a product that can do what it wishes with the product. Remember, the law suit was brought AFTER the NFL admitted it busted the Patriots blatantly cheating. The Patriots were "punished" and the NFL moved on. These Jets fans wanted their money back for games they lost the seasons the NFL ADMITTED the Patriots were blatantly cheating. The court let the world know these actions could take place and there was nothing a fan could do about it. As you said, they are entitled to a few hours of "entertainment" if they buy a ticket. They aren't guaranteed a game won't be fixed or that one team isn't cheating behind the scenes. That, to me, is an admission of what it is.
As for Shanahan, I agree. Nothing nefarious at all there. This is the third Super Bowl he has choked away for the exact same reasons. Despite the NFL protecting KC Sunday by not calling one of the dozens of blatant holds, Shanahan still literally had the game in hand at the end and did what he always does. The NFL likely sent him a thank you card today for his continued stupidity that helped them retain Taylor Swift fans for at least another season.

You are NOT paying enough attention to the ruling!
You think "Spy Gate" was real?
You think "Deflate Gate" was real?
You think "Bounty Gate" was real?
These were made up stories to turn Tom Brady into a heal and to keep the NFL in the news year round.
You think paying a millionaire an extra $100 is going to inspire them to take out a player from the other team.
I guess its still real to you!

It’s a stretch to go automatically from it’s entertainment to it’s fixed.
I don’t believe in conspiracy theories. Oswald killed JFK.

A guy who defected to Russia...and was granted re-entry into the United States then moves to Dallas a month before JFK arrives and gets a job at a building on JFK's motorcade route ends up shooting the President with no help.

I Shanahaned it.

He was a damn $1.25 an hour flunky, it’s not like he was “placed” in some position.
And as far as “not having any help,” you’re telling me that it’s metaphysically impossible for a former Marine … who inherently because of that was a better shot than the average schmuck … to make a shot at 100 yards with a 4x scope?

Wouldn't it not be easier to shot JFK on S. Houston Street before taking a left on Elm from the 6th Floor of the book Depository?
Plus...the Government said he acted alone...so that should tell you something.

Apparently you haven’t studied the aspects of military ambush. He shoots at the car on Houston Street, you have a crap load of trained Secret Service marksmen who’ll be looking right at him, plus at the first shot Greer the driver will floorboard it and boogie on up Houston. You wait until Kennedy is on Elm, then he can’t back up and every inch he moves forward, he’s a more exposed target.
And re>government, tell me without saying the words that you’re a denizen of the cesspool, excuse me the political board LOL.

Honestly, the reason people are so prone to conspiracy theories IMO is because they don’t understand or simply won’t accept that s**t happens and nothing is guaranteed or certain.
Posted on 2/15/24 at 2:35 pm to InkStainedWretch
How is it being a "Conspiracy Theorist" when I presented a Federal Court Ruling showing the NFL is in the entertainment business and can create storylines just like Professional Wrestling?
Go celebrate the Moon Landing.

Again it’s a stretch to say just because they “can,” they “do,” and I celebrated the moon landing in real time as a sixth grader, thank you.
