Good news and bad news-

Good news-
Texas is an amazing state with good access to most everything you want (Hunting/Fishing) and a great tax structure. No state income tax with actually a lower sales tax than La. The property taxes are 2-3x more than La but the schools are much better than La.

Bad News-

Midland is probably the worst place to live in Texas outside of Harlingen. Flat, dusty and very pretty remote place.

Overall- I have many friends that are from there and some that moved there. They all seem pretty happy and seem to enjoy the area. I moved my family to Central Illinois for 8 years in 2010. We made the best of it and all of us have great memories living there.

It will be fine. Enjoy the time there and the mexican food.

what's wrong w/ Harlingen? I've never been but stumbled arcoss some real estate listing there and, not being familiar, went down the rabbit trail. Seemed interesting for the prices shown; I'm not going there just curious what's "wrong" with the area?
