Freak, Lawrence, Shelvin, Roy, Guillory, Maason...were all rated pretty high but sadly, underachieved according to their star billing/fan expectation.

Agree on your post except for Maason...BTW only his TR FR year. MS was a monster his first year at LSU. But then of course in the first game his SO season against FSU, he celebrated by jumping up in the air and came down to tear his ACL. Missed the entire 2022 season and then in 2023 was just a shadow of his former self.

Maason Smiths Freshman Year stats
quote:

Recorded 19 tackles, 5.0 tackles for loss and 4.0 sacks as a true freshman in 2021

Maason Smith against McNeese in 20222
quote:

had 6 tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss (-24) and 3.0 sacks (-22) in win over McNeese

He was a monster against one bad FCS school. The other 11 games he barely contributed

This. If DM can be anywhere near the freshman year Maason had, I'll be as pumped as I was to see Maason in year two.

That sounds sarcastic as I typed it but it's genuine, that'd be awesome.

Lawrence was better than he is getting credit for. He dealt with injuries a bit like Maason. We were a better defense when he was on the field.

Roy was solid as well. Not a superstar, but solid.

Shelvin was good run stuffer when on the field. Ate himself off the field that kept him from playing enough.
