Can Dominick McKinley be what Maason Smith was supposed to be?

Dude is 5 Star plus DL. Seems to have the size. Will need a few more lbs. Will need to be on the field freshman year. He dominated the all American Games.

Nobody knows. Some 5 stars are hits, some are misses. Many on here thought he didn't deserve a 5 star rating based on his play this past year.

He’ll have better coaching, which may have been all Smith needed.

Dom will be fine. Seems like Bo worked with worse and made Texas into a decent DL. That's why if we get someone or another to fill in for the spring until the portal I'm not too worried. Other than the fact that those DL played spring for a completely different team.

Will probably be in the rotation at DE until he’s been in the strength program for a year.

I'm hoping Bo Davis is the difference. We haven't had a dominating interior defensive lineman since, who? Dorsey? Brockers?

Freak, Lawrence, Shelvin, Roy, Guillory, Maason...were all rated pretty high but sadly, underachieved according to their star billing/fan expectation.

With a DL coach like Bo Davis coaching him up, his ceiling is really high, he just needed better coaching, he performance in Under Armor practices with their staff was night and day from reg season

He will have a great d line coach to get it out of him. Would’ve loved to see Maason with Bo Davis

A red shirt year would be very helpful for him. He is full of potential. Maybe Bo Davis can work some magic cause we may need him in the Fall.

Sure.

But we need bodies. We are currently in desperation mode. I think easily we are short 2 SEC level players.

I highly doubt he starts on the line, but do yall think he will get a significant amount of reps his first year?

Hope can stay healthy enough to be developed by Bo! LSU was soooo thin inside.

I would be surprised if he wasn’t much better. He has a better body type and already understands pad level and looks like he will be a better technician

Nobody wanted to hear it at the time, but some coaches like Saban thought Maason would make a better offensive tackle with his body type. He could never overcome his high center of gravity playing on the interior. It just wasn’t hard for SEC level olinemen to gain leverage over Maason

Dom comes in better built physically to play on the interior.
