I work in Business Development for an industrial company in Baton Rouge. I am seeking an annual duck lease where I can entertain customers, but I’m not sure of the best way to find one that’s not a hunting club. I just started my search, but I feel like y’all might be able to help too!

Are you looking north or south of the nets?

Be very cautious of a crawfish/rice farmer that already doesn’t have committed hunters. Good luck. You’re up against a big task depending on your budget.

Finding worthwhile duck leases in LA is nearly impossible. I wish you the best of luck

Company lease is great if the company is willing to pony up for a camp or houseboat. is willing to own water craft in its name and also has employees to spare for odd jobs at the lease along with help guiding customers. Add those to the yearly cost of the land and you could book 5-6 weekend group hunts At an established place for the next 20 years and not have to lift a finger.

ETA: we had a company deer/duck camp from 96-03 and back then we spent $15k for yearly lease. Built five mud boats, bought the existing camp for $25k and probably spent $600+ a weekend on food, gas and booze even back then. Oh and we had to build a generator barge with 20kw diesel. Now this was a lease you had to get to by boat so that adds extra hassle. We also spent many a weekend keeping ditches clean and building stands.

Just take them to Covey Rise or some place like it for a canned hunt.

Realistically, how many hunts do you think you’ll make a season?

I would def do paid hunts way easier, less to worry about and it lets you spend more time with the customers and not having to worry about planning meals and everything else.

Good Duck lease are hard to come by. Chances are if land is on the market there is a reason.....

It's fun the first couple of years after that, not so much. It's a grind and from October through mid feb you are worn out.

Finding a spot now is brutal and expensive. Especially if you don't own it - there is always someone watching / lurking to out bid you in a heartbeat if you have birds. It's mercenary work now adays.

You could rent a property or a blind, but odds of having a solid blind are very low.

For what you'd spend I'd say consider the paid hunts. If you double/triple that budget you could lease something decent....if you can get in.

Locking in hunts with a local guide service is what my former employer does for its customers. They had stayed with the same guide service/lodge forever, but that guy sold out a couple years ago, so they looked around and found another service that had a nice lodge and good hunting ground.

As others have said, I would book trips with an outfitter. Way less hassle for you. Swla is swamped with guide services these days and they get all the best properties. Plus, there are a lot of people in the area that will knowingly rent you the worst gar hole for $10,000, knowing you aren’t gonna kill anything. Plus, if geese do get on your farm, they’ll put out cannons or shoot them out your field. Good luck.

Book the white lake corporate hunt through LA dept of wildlife and fisheries. Then new Governor will repair the neglect the last one left in repaired. Great hunt when they up and running.
