Do you think car dealerships will become obsolete?

I’ve been hearing that more and more people are buying cars online, without having to step foot in a dealership. Maybe obsolete is a strong word, but do you think online sales of vehicles will overtake dealerships sales down the road?

No. The way you go inside and purchase may change, but people need service and want to test drive and see their options.

You supposed to test drive in VR?

Eventually we will all be on some subscription service where we get another vehicle ever few years.

They’re already obsolete but protected by state franchise laws. Same as realtors, little to no value add but protected by lobbyists.

All of those online companies are filing for bankruptcy. See vroom and carvana

Yes, but not soon. Technology should have already made it extinct but dealers have a lot of political power.

No. I need trunks to put bodies in.

Seems to be the way everything is trending. I know some auto manufacturers make you subscribe to features of a vehicle that you "own"

Dealerships will move to more of a showroom model like Tesla while also offering very small scale selling for people who still want to do it the traditional way.

I hope so. I just want to get approved, pick out exactly how I want my vehicle to look, wait 1 month and pick it up. I can’t stand dealerships and the first come first serve bullshite.

You are better off riding the bus before you finance through carvana. They are ruining young, naive people’s credit and it’s sad to see.

Yes, and we go to a place dedicated to service, not sales.

I bought my truck online (during Covid) from an out of state dealership.

You’re going to get downvoted but it’s true. There’s no need for realtors or car dealerships.
