Spinoff: fentanyl laced cocaine

Explain this to me like I’m 5, why is fentanyl being put in cocaine?
From a totally novice perspective it seems like a blatant act of mass murder by a nefarious actor.
I can understand from an economic standpoint why you would cut black market pain meds with fentanyl. You can make your product go a lot further with a few grains of fentanyl and no one would know since it produces the same effect as other opioids.
But what drug dealer thinks it’s a good idea to put fentanyl in cocaine? They have opposite effects. Is a drug user really going to say “hey that was great coke, I immediately fell asleep on the couch for 12 hours, let me get some more of that”.
How is this going to produce repeat customers? What am I missing?

It isn’t being put in it intentionally. Cross contamination is happening while the drugs are being handled. Normally it wouldn’t be an issue but because fentanyl is so potent it “laces” the cocaine.

Theyre drug dealers, not economists

They add fentanyl because a tiny amount of fentanyl turns a little bit of cocaine into a frickton of "cocaine"
It's like Jesus feeding the multitude with the loaves and fishes.
The users don't care because they get high and opiates are addictive as frick so the cocaine addicts become "cocaine" addicts and are just fine with it because that's how addiction works.

Drug dealers know more about economics than most of our government. They definitely understand the principles of supply, demand, and repeat customers.

This is my question. How?
Fentanyl is an opioid, it produces drowsiness and sedation
Cocaine is a potent stimulant.
I would think anyone who is used to regular cocaine would immediately know something is different and not be getting the effect that they want. Why would they go back if they actually survive?

“What are the options when you’ve got an inferior product in an aggressive marketplace?”
String's economic policies were taught in a Yale MBA course.
For the second time in one week, I will say everything important I know I learned from The Wire.

Cocaine white powder
Fentanyl white powder
Drug dealer who sells both reaches in the one bag to grab product doesn’t have sku’s or tags to tell what is what and sells what they believe is cocaine to customer who snorts fentanyl instead of cocaine

I don’t know a lot but I know this is bullshite.
If anyone puts their hand in a bag of fentanyl they would be dead very quickly. Have you not seen the videos of cops overdosing by simply searching a car that has fentanyl in it? It will be absorbed right through your skin. The amount of cocaine 1 person would typically use could probably kill 5,000 people if it was pure fentanyl.

You think a young drug dealer really knows what the difference is or really cares they just care about getting paid

No drug dealer is selling baggies of fentanyl that look like baggies of cocaine.
This is a lethal dose of fentanyl
Why would a drug dealer be selling a “baggie” of fentanyl?

Because people want it simple economics do you think drug dealing is like a trade job? John went to coke school and Joe went to fentanyl school no they carry multiple drugs on them and sell multiple drugs to numerous people day and night

You have been fearmongered.
Fentanyl can be absorbed transdermally but it is VERY slow. If you stuck your hand in a pile of pure fentanyl and left it there you would die... in a few hours.

Fair enough
I just dont understand why dealers would intentionally mix it with cocaine. And I don’t buy the narrative that it’s accidental contamination, this is happening far too frequently.
It seems intentional from the source of production.

The cartels have made billboards in Mexico saying they will kill anyone putting fentanyl in product

You don’t have to believe it. I just so happen to know someone who deals cocaine and his shite has gotten cross contaminated. Not saying that’s the case in every instance but it happens often.

Fentanyl is cheaper to manufacture than cocaine. Dealers will add a little fentanyl to their supply of cocaine to increase their profit margins. However, the risk is that the dealer will kill his customer if they spike the cocaine with too much fentanyl. Drug cartel math.

I don't disagree, but it's a pretty low bar.
