I'm in the same boat as you. Started with 100 acres when I got out of military. Now farm 4k+ acres. These boys need a 4mil dollar loan and be at the mercy of the market and mother nature to pay it back. And then be hated by the people you feed. If you want to farm you can get in. Problem is that most are too scared

See what I mean.

Well when you got a shite head in this thread, just assuming all farmers are the same and racking up on subsides through windmills, which is a bold face lie some parts of the country might be, but not down here. We are going to be transparent about the farming industry and explain that it’s not always great out here, you have your ups and downs

I don't have any issues with farmers but I have been around them my whole life and they are a complaining lot. I figure any farmer that doesn't think farmers bitch and moan all the time is so ensconced in their agronomy bubble that they have forgotten what it is like to not complain. Maybe there is a different level of "real" complaining but either I have never heard it or it all just sounds the same to me.

I have relatives that still have legacy sharecropper houses on their property and not a single one has ever had to move into one from the big house.

Solar panels are big where I'm at. Guess who owns the land? Mr. Gates. Not us rich farmers. Not collecting on that and land prices keep going up where we can't afford land so these investment companies keep buying the land.

Hey dipshit you need to educate yourself. Not every farmer owns their own land. We don’t have windmills in my area. I haven’t collected a subsidy in over 5 years on rice. The price of rice has been above what they pay you out on. Stop lumping all the farmer together.

Yeah I know.

We lease out 4000 acres in Colorado. Corn acres. Share cropping. My mother spends alot of her time mediating between two dudes who constantly bitch about each other and whatever other thing they can complain about.

Oh yeah. One is losing some acreage to some power lines from the windmills. He's being compensated but in true farmer fashion, it just isn't enough.

I mean you have that in any industry some guys bitch and moan, then you have some that are always happy and upbeat. I try to stay as upbeat as I can no matter the situation most the farmer I know do the same. If you had mouth and complain that’s not a fun life at all and can effect your job quickly.

Well so far, all you frickers sure as shite sound the same. You sound like every whiney frickin' farmer I've ever been around.

How about surprising us for a frickin' change and telling us all how good you've got it.

I can’t tell you bout Colorado farmers. What they do in Colorado doesn’t reflect what goes on in Louisiana I’m telling you most farmers I know are fair and thankful farmers. If they bitch and complain so much get new farmers. Apparently it isn’t that bad

Here’s how good I have it. I got my health and a great family, I enjoy coming home for lunch to my little kids and taking them to the farm, and hopefully watch them grow up on it. I love waking up every morning doing what I love and love being my own boss. I think that about covers it.

Despite the fact that they live in McMansions, their cornfed wives drive BMW's and the farmers themselves pull 70 thousand dollar bass boats behind their F-250's,

Let me introduce you to livestock producers, the vast majority of which are family owned and small operations. Cattle prices were tanked the past 6 years. Diesel higher, feed costs higher, cattle prices remained low. Finally they started catching up but we had to get creative to make up the difference.

We work every day, Christmas mornings, New Years Day, doesn't really matter. We can take vacations, but we know the work never stops. Wake up before sunrise, finish up work at sunset. We don't make a killing, but we love it.

That 2500 Ram your jealous of? That thing hauls my hay, brings steers to the butcher, hauls equipment, and does shite a 1500 level truck wouldn't do. It is necessary for the job. We don't own a fricking bass boat - we hardly have time to fish. We hunt, but only because the location. My wife drives a Honda, which has seen more off-road than most of your mud tired trucks out there.

Both of the farmers in this thread have reminded us multiple times how hard their job is, for example.

That was only after a couple of idiots started railing on farmers.

That would be a pretty good hit. I guess if I ever go bankrupt farming, I can try my hand at country music.

I hope my kids grow up to be doctors and lawyers to be honest. When I get back even I'm out to be honest. Not fun anymore. No matter what anyone says about us. 2022 I had 2000 acres of beans rot in the field due to some depression that gave us 20in of rain in August. Financed a hair over 1 mil in debt. Someone else can have it.

Oh I’m with you I have 3 kids. If they want to farm, I’ll be happy if they want to be something else other than a farmer I would be even more happier.
