I can’t disagree there. Lots of compliance requirements in the military. I asked the boss about crane certification for the installers and he said that they just take their chances and will pay the fine if caught. Cheaper that way. I was like, WTF.

I think we just stumbled on a variable in the aforementioned equation.

If this is the case, consider yourself lucky you got let go. I run a heavy manufacturing shop. Safety is no joke. We have cranes we have to get certified every year. If my cranes fail, then large pieces of glass will fall on you and kill you in a very painful way. Anyone who looks the other way on something like that is a piece of shite.

Sounds like he did you a favor. That “policy” is pretty standard in Asian owned companies.

No fine worth witnessing or being a part of a fatality. I’d have quit the second he said that and reported it to OSHA.

I think this is why you got fired, not sciatica. It'll come back to bite him when someone dies on the jobsite

This begs the question, why would you continue to work for a company with someone in management who thinks this way? This is yet another reason recently separated military people do not make great employees for a short period of time. Anyone in any industry who had come up in the industry would have laughed initially and said "yeah, but what about their certs". If the dumbass repeated it anyone who was concerned about their own health would have drug up on the spot after telling to stupid bastard that he was an idiot. And then following it up with a notification to the state labor department so there was a record of it happening when the stupid bastard got someone killed.
