Looking at revamping my entire lineup of casting rods. Currently have 15 setups and it’s just too much. Want to downscale to maybe 8, with all rods pulling multiple duties. Warranty and customer service is impt to me. $150 range per rod budget. Currently eyeing some Dobyns and irod genesis rods. Do any of yall have any experience with these? Another brand that you have had good experience with. Thanks again

I started off as an Allstar guy in the 90's, but I have transitioned to mostly Dobyns the last decade or so.

You won't be disappointed with Dobyns.

Can't argue with dobyns.

But for 100 the Abu Garcia Veritas 7' medium and medium heavy rods can cover any technique

I won one at a CCA banquet a few years ago. I like it a lot as well to be honest.

This is Chevy vs Ford to a certain extent and personal preference. I have 6 Dobyns and like them all but they’re a bit tip heavy and I use them for moving baits. They excel at being do-anything’s in their rating, but for bottom contact I like my loomis’s. Really hard to go wrong with shimanos at any price point especially exprides.

My advice would be don’t just pick a brand and buy 8, there are standouts and duds in every model range. Lots of good forums and YouTube info on technique specific rods. Some that I wouldn’t sell for more than I paid for them;

Loomis GLX 853C JWR - my favorite rod by far and the one I’d pick if someone said I can only have one. Can feel anything on a 1/4oz Texas rig, but it’ll throw jigs, wacky, and lighter Carolinas.

Dobyns champ 735 - tank and awesome frog rod, but can flip heavy cover just as well.

Expride 7’2 heavy - feels more like a med heavy to me. awesome spinnerbait and buzzbait rod, but I throw swim jigs and chatter baits in it too, anything but cranks really

Expride 6’10 M - excellent jerk bait rod but just as good for top water poppers/plugs and small squarebills

Going even further, I'd set an overall budget, and then splurge on 2 or 3 technique specific rods and spend less on moving bait rods.

In no particular order, I'd look at the following brands:

Shimano (everything $100 and up is good, the exprides are unbelievable)
Dobyns
ALX
Kistler (the KLX are great moving bait rods)
Daiwa
Halo
St Croix
Lamiglas

Hard to beat a dobyns tbh my 7'2 MH Glass Rod is one of the most versatile rods I own

I’ve had Loomis, Falcon, Duckett, Fitzgerald, St. Croix and a couple more and my favorite rod series is the Lews Custom Lite. The bladed jig rod is phenomenal! Also bought their spinnerbait, jerkbait, and top water models.

Honestly, I’m a big fan of the Irod Genesis in that price range. I like my Dobyns champions better, but for $150 you won’t find a better line up than the Irod. They have any and every model you can imagine. The stone cold vibrating jig rod is my go to chatterbait and trap rod.

Gloom is E6X rods are in your price range and the sensitivity is insane on those.

Just me though- you don't need 8 of the exact same thing, get a couple of different rods. Make sure you like it and life will happen. Rod tips and eyes will break and rods will have to be replaced eventually and phase in the ones you love or want to try

Appreciate all of the input. I’ll branch out my search a little and look at some of the other brands mentioned. I failed to mention how I was narrows down my search. Technique breakdown as follow:
1. Spinnerbait, chatter bait, swim jig rod
2. Carolina rig/frog rod/swing head. If I splurge, it will be here. I love draggin
3. Jerkbait/wacky rig rod. Maybe shallow cb?
4. Trig/smaller swimbait rod
5. Heavy cover flippin/ pitchin
6. Weightless fluke or senko
7. CB or DD cb rod. Not something I do a lot of
8. Bfs vs spinning outfit for finesse applications?

For reference, I’m fishing with majority original Curado cu200 reels and some Johnny morris specials. Rods now are mostly bps carbonlite/ falcon lowrider mix. I am leaning heavily toward the curado mgl reels for all of these rods. Have one coming in today

I build my own.
Still like Falcons especially the peacock bass line for spinnerbait in the spillway or tight canals.

Running Pride rods guy started it Billy Kistler, who Allstar years ago using Gary Loomis made blanks.
On cheap side I buy Northfork composite Rod blank made by a Gary Loomis in the delta series around $40 on sale. By the time I put guides, handle, cork, rod keeper at $100 to $115 dollars.

Northfork blanks I like
NB 705-1 worm
Like old Allstar worm rod

NB708-1 jig 12-25 3/8-1-1/4
NB 709-1 jig 14-30 lb 3/8 -2

Use to be able to buy the Northfork composite rods from Northfork composite built for what your looking at in price.

To me, BFS is the answer to a question no one asked. Spinning is just superior for just about everything light. The only time I really want light bait casting is when throwing shad raps.

I've started replacing old rods the last few years too. I bought a few from Favorite Fishing and love them. Specifically the Big Sexy and Pro Series casting rods, they have good sales throughout the year.

Also great experience with their customer service, one of the rods I ordered from them was broken when it arrived and they overnighted me a new one with some merch and a handwritten apology note.

Go to Walmart and get Berkley Lightning Rod, they have a bunch of different ones.

I like the 7ft medium heavy

They are around $55-$60

Prettymuch. Japanese people enjoy making things that can do things they shouldn’t be able to do. Throwing super light stuff accurately is supposedly a big deal to them because every body of water is highly pressured, but that’s a stretch to me.

Be quiet about BFS.
Nothing to see here move on there is no such thing as BFS reels.

For years I used
Lews Walley Marshall graphite $45
Diawa Pixy Japanese model
Basspro pro lite

Lews -
Simple design.
Lapped the gears
Changed spool bearings out
It’s probably the best one after tweaking as the spool was light.

Diawa Pixy
- it was not bad just hard to tweak
- still a good reel

BPS pro lite
- it was similar to Lews walley marshall.
- last year they ran this one they added centrifugal brakes which made it harder to tweak.

- prior years they were simple magnetic drag and easy to tweak like the Lews Wally marshall.

Shocker
Control of the lure and works well on finesses lures out of the box.
Lews custom SP.
Made for skipping & pitching.
Sweet sweet for BFS!!!!

Line use 4lb as 2lb twist up too much if you use the bubble and tag line for bream popper.

Lures
Small rebel minnows
Small rebel tiny wee r
Rapala tiny shad rap

Finesse jigs

Secret bream bait Brec ponds.
It really work on bass, rainbow trout, sacaliat, and bream.

Clear bubbles you add water for weight.
Add trailer and bream popping bug.

Brec pond behind the softball courses off Choctaw and Villa Oaks nailed the bass off small rebel minnow. Caught them back to back to back off my Lews wally marshall setup. Have to park across villa oaks and walk in if the park is closed. Behind the softball fields in the Southwest corner of the park.

He also started CastAway and is Trey Kistler's (who owns Kistler Rods) dad. Once Trey stopped using NFC blanks, Billy started Pride using NFC blanks.

Same here. Started building over the summer and love it.

Using split cork grips, blank thru reel seat and Fuji Corrosion Control framed Alconite guides, I can build a rod for around the blank cost + $70. Could probably shave another ~$20 off of that if I really wanted to.

The NFC Delta blanks are same quality as the blanks used on G Loomis IMX rods for comparison.

If the OP wants to get into building his own... my current favorites are:

NFC Xray SJ736 - great all around bass rod for baits up to ~3/4oz total weight. It's you do everything workhorse

NFC Xray DS6100 - phenomenal drop shot blank up to ~1\4oz

Point Blank PB691MLXF - jerkbaits and topwater poppers/small walking baits

PB691MXF - larger jerkbaits, larger topwater, smaller spinnerbaits, light TX rigs

PB731MXF - bottom contact baits up to 3/4oz total weight

Great choices.

I called NFC and a guy called me back and gave me what blanks the builders used years ago for popular rods back in the day. Delta is just unsanded vs xray. Guy said delta the best bang for the buck.

Your right $40 ish for the blank $40 to $50 depending on grips, guides, etc. you can come out with a great rod in low $100 ballpark.
