After tonight’s win, the Pels are 7th in the NBA in NetRtg at +5.2. However, we seem to be a completely different team before and after halftime this year.

In the first half of games this year, the Pels are 2nd in the NBA in NetRtg at +12.0. In the second half the Pels are 20th at -1.7. This 13.7 point swing is by far the biggest difference between halves among any team in the league in any direction, with the next closest being the Hawks at a 9.8 difference (+1.6 / -7.2).

And it’s not just one player pulling everyone down as it’s nearly the whole team having negative individual NetRtg in both the 3rd and 4th quarters. It’s especially bad in the 4th quarter as Trey and JV are the only rotational players with a positive score (though BI’s is specifically horrendous at -17.4).

So what causes this? Conditioning issues? Coaching? Rotation decisions?

The 20th in the second half is a big improvement. I think a month ago we were last in the league so we’re making progress on that end.

I think it really boils down to clutch time. Teams would ramp up their physicality and the offense would stall.

I'd argue it's randomness more than anything

You hear it a lot, in regular season games and half times, coaches aren't doing nearly the amount of adjustments as people think they do.

It's randomness. It's the same reason the starting lineup looks so bad this season but if you swap just CJ for Dyson, it's one of the best starting 5s in the NBA. And no one thinks subbing CJ for Dyson would make us better. It's all randomness.

Good teams get more locked in defensively in the second half and specifically the fourth quarter. We’ve really struggled when that happens.
