That was awesome. Can’t believe it’s been since 1993

Inject those days back into my veins

I was a much bigger MMA fan during the late 90s, both Pride and the UFC.

You had to win 3 fights that night to win the tournament.

Ufc today might as well be child's play.

I think UFC of past AND present is amazing. Hard to discredit anything these guys/gals are doing in the sport.

IMO, MMA is just a much more exciting & impressive sport than 95% of other sports today.

I think your average fighter today would destroy 1993 Royce Gracie with wrestling/BJJ alone, so I don't see why they'd have issues in the OG UFC, which Royce dominated with BJJ alone.

The original UFCs were basically informercials for Gracie Jiujitsu.

Royce also found out the hard way when he fought without his gi on. He got obliterated.

Always remember going to Blockbuster and getting the first couple UFCs on VHS tape. Was so good back then. I still watch, but not nearly invested as I used to be. Ever since they moved to ESPN+ my interest died except for some of the main cards and I can't stand when the put them on at the small Vegas Apex venue.

This. The gi prevented opponents' ability to hold him. He knew it and took advantage of it. Just wearing tights, he's still good but not nearly the same.

the sport is killing it the last 5-10 years. Dana White seldom misses.

Early UFC is kind of like the movie Bloodsport (1988) in real life, or about as close as you could get anyway. That on its own is pretty cool.

Modern UFC is still about as brutal / hardcore as it gets. There's a lot of moments when two fighters are about to face-off where you're like--this is absolutely insane. Gaethje was talking about how adrenaline is the best drug, and you get a bit of that vicariously when watching the fights, especially the really big / megahype fights. It's thrilling. The UFC is always chasing that high, chasing the dragon from card to card trying to outdo the last one, seeing how insane they can make it with the match-ups. They deliver a good percentage of the time, it's a great product.

The entire promotion and sport was built on VHS rentals at Blockbuster. It's pretty incredible.

There was nothing like renting UFC 3 and Summer Slam 1991 and watching them all Friday night.
