That’s how Spelman was started. Read about it yesterday. Initial enrollees were mostly illiterate. Was a good example of free people trying to help former slaves catch up, when it started.
No idea what it’s like now, but it seemed like a nice idea and thing at the start.

Even a black girl isn’t getting into an Ivy with a 31 on the ACT/whatever the SAT equivalent is.
There's gotta be thousands of people getting into Ivys with a score this low. It's simple math. Look at the number of minorities getting in. There's no way possible enough 33+ act scores are being posted by blacks every year to feed that type of demand.

Leftist white women are a cancer on society.

Well...I realize you are just being childish, but Spelman is an all womens school. She would have given this to the all mens school Morehouse next door if this was her incentive.
I was working construction in and around Atlanta back when I was in my early 20's ahead of the '96 Olympics. We were doing exterior renovations on the Spelman Campus because they were to be used as housing for many of the international athletes. We were a small crew of 5 so they allowed to use their cafeteria for lunch. And I must say, some of them girls were FINE!! I know it won't be a popular opinion here , but damn this man of the caucasian persuasian picked up a very fond appreciation of beautiful black women. Patman likey!

Good for her. Good for them. Ain’t my money. It’ll probably help a lot of people but some will likely get “misappropriated” as well. Hard to give any entity that much money without some being funneled away from the students.

One at Clark, one at Spelman

I'm kinda shocked to know there's a white person in an HBCU board . Figured it was a private club.

That will buy a heck of a lot of kool aid.

I've never heard of her or her family's company Stryker Corp but it says her net worth is over $7 bil and she only owns 6% of the company stock. Fricking A...

Spelman is a good school. You can get a good education at those HBCUs that are clumped there in Atlanta...Spelman, Morehouse, Clark.

The other $25 million will be used to improve student housing, develop academics for public policy and democracy, and to “provide flexible funding” for other needs.
Tons of bullshite besides housing

If you wanna donate family money, cool.
At least donate to a real school.
If there is an HCBU that you want to give to, it's Spellman. Spellman is the top HCBU according to US News college rankings but it is a small school. It is not ranked in national universities but is ranked #39 overall in Liberal arts colleges.
USN score for Spellman is 78 out of 100. For UNO it simply states bottom 25%.

Tell me how a prestigious college getting a fat check is some indictment on society.

harvard's class of 2027 has just under 2k students and about 10% are black. assuming the other ivies are relatively in the same ballpark, it's pretty easy to believe.
eta: my louisiana public high school had at least 50 kids score above a 31 on the ACT. that's not an impressive number. some of those kids went to LSU.

That’s called doing business. This thread is about her donation.

Ok cool. I still think $100M to a college is not a worthy cause.
quote:ok. I didn’t realize you knew her.
She's a good person....no reason to shite on her.
