The #1 lesson I’ve always been taught is NEVER COMPLY with a criminal.
Gun to your face, give me your wallet…maybe.
Get in the car, let me tie you up, etc…FIGHT every time.

Haven’t finished the first episode but I can almost hear the raging erection that this reporter/journalist has over the case. It’s kinda disgusting to be honest.

I caught the last half of the documentary. Did they say how Muller got into the home?

I was waiting for them to say they found lots of video tapes but I guess not. Or did the incompetent police miss these too.

Great doc, imho. It broke my heart.
A reminder- the link between peeping Tom to rapist to serial killer is very strong. It’s more a degree of how far along they are in the process. That’s why you have to take peeping Tom behavior seriously.

Every documentary has that person trying too hard.

There's a podcast called Crimanl that did two episodes on this a year or so ago. Had more interviews with them and went into a little more details about the kidnapping. One of the better episodes of a really great podcast. Haven't finished the documentary and I had never looked up photos of the couple but oddly enough they looked very similar to what I had pictured them looking like in my head. Unlike how completely different Joe Exotic looked when I finally saw him

Yes

Didn't really get that vibe from him. Just seemed like a pretty typical reporter. It's a crazy story, it's kind of his job to be interested/invested in it.

The entire show looks like it's a badly produced Dateline.
I'm having a hard time believing it in its entirety. If at all.

The #1 lesson I’ve always been taught is NEVER
Talk to the police without legal representation!!!!!! I don't care if you're only a witness to a vehicle accident. NEVER divulge information without an attorney present to protect your rights!
Every crime documentary I have seen always starts with someone (may or may not be the criminal) talking to the police. They will twist and turn every word you say to their own benefit.
It's what they do, it's their job!

This was the one that stood out to me the most. People come out of these insane, sleep-deprived experiences and are just so grateful to have the "good guys" on the scene that they just never think to get an attorney.
The podcast mentioned that even after Aaron asked for his attorney, the cops stalled a bit (perhaps illegally) in fulfilling his request.
The thing is, I don't mind the detectives' skepticism - and even the tactic of sort of verbally roughing him up. But not to the point of excluding basic police work to chase down all angles and tie them up. Putting the phone in airplane mode just seems like inexplicable incompetence.
I'm just imagining myself in the same situation. Not only would I NOT let them have my phone without some sort of attorney oversight, but I would also do the thingy Android has where you can cause it to basically brick until you (the user) go through a bunch of steps that can't just be brute forced for entry even without your approval.

I have no shame in admitting that my guilty pleasure TV watching is Dateline. You watch just a handful of Datelines and you realize this fact real quick.
People think "O I'm innocent, there's no harm in me talking to them/they'll see that I'm innocent." Hell no. Lawyer up. I don't care if I was 10 states over when this happened, talk to my attorney.
As dumb as these cops clearly were, I will say that the boyfriend was not very likeable. My wife did not like him at all. He was so casual in the interview that I can kind of see why the cops didn't believe him. Just another reason to attorney up.

This is a bit much. You are saying people should hire attorneys if they are witnesses to minor traffic accidents which is an idiotic statement.
