He was a waste of space last year. All he did was get tied up with one lineman and end the play in the place he started it. Never required and double teams. We’re better off moving on. Can’t understand the panic.

Team still needs bodies at DT. Games are won in the trenches. And the hope is with a competent DC and DL coach, Smith could have improved a ton.

Because he has the potential to be much better next year two years after ACL surgery and we have no one left on the interior DL who is a difference maker in a line of scrimmage league.

100% accurate

Hopefully he’ll make a squad and start playing again. He didn’t play this year.

Upside was big. The theory was that he played hurt most of the year. I agree with your take that his film was pedestrian, but we are thin as can be at DT now. And that is a recipe for disaster in the SEC

He played much better against Wisconsin-especially in the 2nd half

Well, if he was a starter, there was no one on the team that was better than him so I’m damn glad he was on the team this year.

That said, no one is indespensable. College football teams are a constant rotation of players and we will be just fine without him. There is no need to disparage him.

I think there was always hope that he could eventually reach his potential. Maybe another year removed from a major injury would have helped.

The NFL is full of stupid and someone will reach for him based only on that freak size, potential.

I love how now he was guaranteed to be a stud next year. All he needed was a new DC. There is no way to know that. Most people don’t go from abysmal to rock star status in one year. We can replace him in the spring portal with someone better.

Even though he wasn’t really productive he was a big body with experience and upside, and we are severely lacking in both.

He’s like the Basketball Adam Miller

Just wait till he’s healthy? Maybe some don’t ever get back to 100% healthy??? I dont know

But he’s was here long enough to know we not winning game because of him, give me someone eager to make a name for himself.

But no ill will- good luck 0

Because we’re down to a total of 4 defensive tackles with one of those being a true freshman. One being a 5th year senior backup, a juco transfer that hasn’t impressed anywhere to date and a former 3 star with no real playing time.

We’re about 3 bodies short and miles behind in talent.

The fact that you have to ask this question, it’s not even worth answering

He was always long on hype and potential, but short on production, even before the injury. People raved about him as a freshman, but I think he had something like five tackles and a sack or two against an FCS team.

Because we now only have 4 active DL on roster. We need bodies more than anything

Any chance LSU can get Bryce Langston back out of the portal?

Go look at his freshman highlights. He has real potential just didn't have great coaching this year so it was underwhelming. But to ignore his talent due to a bad season is ignorant. Look at Damone Clark when he got Blake Baker after arguably one of the worst seasons by a Linebacker in 2020. That is the type of progression you could have seen from Maason in 2024.
