Obviously it matters a lot because we don’t eat it nor are we allowed. It goes against social norms. Personally I don’t care but culture has a say so in this
Eta: Social norms was a bad choice of words. Maybe someone more intelligent can put into words what I’m trying to say. I suck at relaying my thoughts

A lot of old horses in the US before 2007 were slaughtered and sent to Europe. Until the 1960s you could buy horse meat as food for dogs. Zoos and circuses would regularly feed horse meat to carnivores.

Maybe Korea too but I doubt it
When I was stationed in Korea in 00-01, guys in my unit would talk about a dog farm near base and they would hear them beat the dogs before killing them. Not sure if true though.

cultural differences
You’re right that social norms are the reason why we do it, but I don’t think that really tells us anything does it?
Social norms allow us to never question a behavior, and it is a moral copout. Social norms are the opposite of consideration, and void of reason.
Thank goodness people throughout history have questioned social norms.

Was the dog a Golden Retriever or Lab ?
Because that's just wrong, man......wrong.

I would have a hard time not causing an international incident.
Overall, I’m against most large scale meat farming in general. If that means we need to learn to live within ourselves and make better localized food decisions and we can’t keep a population that we have no, so be it. I fundamentally believe the pursuit of food has done more evil to the world than maybe any other factor

Culture is a strange animal.

This kinda bullshite right here happens when we assign human qualities to animals.
Now I do agree with this.

There's absolutely nothing wrong with eating dogs.
I am not going to tell someone it is wrong, but I would have to pretty damn hungry before I could eat a dog.

Still do. More of it is shipped live across the Canadian and Mexican borders for processing now, but it still happens.
We're still the number 6 producer of Horse Meat for human consumption globally.

Kagogi I believe is what it's called. Bulgogi (beef) Kagogi (canine).

Have you eaten dog before? Sounds like people just aren’t liking it as much.
The reason is Dogs were more valuable as guardians, hunters, and beast of burden.
I read a history of Rottweilers. In the middle ages when folks were traveling, Rottweilers were popular because their owner would attach their wallets/valuables to the dogs collar to prevent robbers from stealing them.
All other breeds began similarly. They hunted/chased game that was killed for food. They were a tool for the owner.
Today they are comfort for misfits and psychos.

I see why my brother decided to leave his German Shepherd with me for 2 years instead of trying to get it relocated in South Korea while serving in the Chair Force.
He didn’t want to come home to an empty house with Fido on the stove of his neighbors.

I’ve eaten dog, it’s was really tasty.
So tasty I had a second serving.
Found out later it was dog.
Haven’t eaten it since.
But I would again if starving.
Or if perhaps I wanted to send my enemy a message by eating the family pet.

I’ve got it: feed shiteater pound puppies to homeless people, use the now empty pound cages to house the homeless people. I should win a Nobel for this shite.

Afew years ago, a fellow worker who had been in Viet Nam told me about a Vietnamese Man had a dog tied behind his camp. Each day he would go out and beat the dog. Said he was tenderizing it before he killed and ate.
So it must be true.

Well I'm not eating one either but it kinda bugs that a Government would tell its people they can no longer farm dogs for consumption, for no other real reason than people like them as pets.
